If he is very cheap I woudln't have a problem with Hawks bringing him back to NHL on a 1 yr deal to be our #2
He has experience and from all accounts is a good lockerrom guy
I have never understood the hate Sen fans seem to have for Gerber , He was always solid goalie (Not great) and didn't create the media/lockerrom problems Emery did
And that playoff series vs Pens he was only Sen to show up , He played better then his GAA would indicate
Even in Toronto (08-09 at the end) he had 0.9%+ savings ratio !! (better than the goalies in place !)
In the KHL with an average team he ranked well in % saves.
To hire Gerber as a backup cannot be called "stupid". I personnaly would qualify the move as "insightfull".
He is a good goalie with experience, working ethic, good in the locker room and always apreciated by his mates.

This article is BS anyway. There are far more better options for the Hawks. If I were them I would seriously look at either Biron or Nitymaakii to back up or split with Niemi. Niemi proved he can win a Cup and will only get better.
the degree of holes compared to the cheese is the %saves ! he consistently had above 90% saves !! 90.5 with the leafs and 90% with the sens in the worst years. much better than that generally ... 91% average. That is a decent cheese/hole ratio !

(you are free to think or not) i am not forcing you into anything ... but i never really understood why everyone was soo much after him ! it was pretty unfair ! he was even criticised at the leafs for doing well by the "tank nation" theme !!!
Gerbs is a good guy, never makes much noise and works very hard at improving his game.
Sens fans are jaded as he was signed to a big contract, and while solid, never completely lived up to expectations. He has a knack for making big saves and then letting in a softie that deflates the team.
Pretty sure next season in Chicago it will be a Niemi and Crawford goalie tandem. And if not, there are better options in the NHL than that of Gerber like Marty Biron.
