No Thrashers buyouts expected...

Per Ben Wright's twitter... Don't expect any Thrashers buyout news. GM Rick Dudley doesn't think it's an option the team will use this offseason.

Second worst contract in franchise history after Holik's.

I don't know about THAT... I'd say Rhodes and Dafoe.

It's not like we paid White anything astronomical... not that I'm supporting him, but Little and Kozy couldn't exactly bury his passes this year. That whole line sucked collectively.

At least he overacheived for one of the three years... can't say that about a lot of former Thrashers.

"Not an option" means White is getting bought out.

See: Zhitnik, Alexei.

If Patrick O'Sullivan is supposed to be getting bought out, then why not trade White for him?

White: $2.6M owed, $2.375M cap hit
POS: $2.388M owed, $2.925 cap hit

Scenario comes out Thrashers save $0.212M in salary and gain $0.550M towards the cap floor. Of course vice versa for Edmonton.

Switch POS with Moreau or Nilsson and I'd do it.

I actually think I'd take my chances with White if those are the choices... White is a smart player. I'd rather give him a chance to prove 08-09 wasn't a fluke.

At the very least, White plays checking line and PK minutes.

That is why I said I would do it for Moreau.

Plus with Moreau it would bring a little more leadership to the team.

I thought Moreau was universally maligned in Edmonton these days, mostly since the fans view him as a ****** captain. I could be completely mistaken, but I don't think he has Reasoner levels of respect in Edmonton.

We need to remember to push and make that phrase a part of hockey lexicon this year. We never pushed hard enough to meet those ends in 2008.

POS please.
Moreau is just bad all around.

And our PK seemed to do well this year, with reasoner Thor Slats and pev. I think kane steps in a bit this year as well.

Ethan Moreau is Todd White minus White's ability to occasionally put the puck in the net.

Yeah, but Moreau can't give you Top 6 minutes like Todd White can (when needed)... Moreau could only dream of having a 73 pt. season like White did. Even if it was a fluke.

... that's why I'd rather take my chances with White.

I'm not so easy to give up White as everyone else is.

I agree, i think White can be a decent depth player. Part of the reason he sucked so much last year was that he was playing through injuries. I wouldn't want him on the opening night roster, but as a depth guy he should be useful. He can play PK and PP and isnt a liability in his own end.

So...

a. We're one contract above the minimum, so the trade can't go through otherwise.
b. We have Todd White.
c. We still have the ability to buy out contracts.

Hmmm.

Yes it's interesting. I'm thinking Dudley is reviewing all of the options right now on what to do and doesn't want to make an irrational decision right now just to make the trade go through.

Can he go down and dump guys on minor contracts like Grant Lewis and hanger on, Jason Krog-dor???

And does this number include guys that come off contract on July 1 ??

We will lose probably 10 guys with Armstrong, Kubina, Afinogenov, Kozlov, Boulton, Arty, Popovic, Chad Denny, Thomas Pospisil, Matt Siddall as those that most probably are gone. And also, Lehman and Dan Turdpole Turple. What do we have to do, put them on waivers or just dismiss them?
