Laperriere goes on after concussion

By Dan Gelston, The Associated Press

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA - Ian Laperriere was dazed, his blood squirting all over the ice.

On all fours, a towel pressed to his face, Laperriere begged the Philadelphia Flyers trainer for some good news.

"Is my eyeball still there, Jimmy? Do I still have my eye?" he asked trainer Jim McCrossin.

Yes, the right eye was in place, even though he'd need about 70 stitches to patch up his face.

Laperriere had his eye and his eyesight — but he lost his career.

I miss Lappy, who doesn't rest of the read here:

I love Lappy, which he could still play, and I still remember those classy Devs fans cheering that he got hurt.

I hope he stays around Philadelphia area. The fans here really clung to his style of play and attitude. He's a class act and exactly the type of personality I want around our guys.

Personally I would like to see Lappy given a job working with the kids coming through the system... once the Flyers have a system full of kids, which likely will be AFTER Homer gets canned... which can't come quick enough for my liking.

He sure has done such a bad job since taking over, making our team competitive for the cup every single year...

Last time I checked we only made it to the cup once....when we were a hair away from being swept by Boston (and would have been if not for Krecji going down)

-He has put us in terrible cap situation
-He has depleted the organization of any depth
-He has made stupid move and mistake after stupid move and mistake....and then scrambles to fix them

He had a perfect opportunity to get this team over the hump this past season....and what does he do....Zherdev, Walker, Shelley, Leighton. $6 million down the tube.

If Im not mistaken, I remember reading that Lappy was working with the Black Aces during practices during the playoffs. Would love for him to come in and get a spot in the management.

Means nothing, really. You're either a good general manager, or you're not.

Really? Experience and training have no bearing?

"Hey, who needs law school! you're either a good lawyer or you're not!"
"Why hire this guy who was an assistant GM for 5 years when we can just throw an inexperienced ex player into the job? You're either good or you're not!"

Generally, I don't care when a thread turns into a furious Homer conversation. But, come on, let's leave this one for Lappy.

So glad to see him win the Masterton tonight. He definitely deserved it.

"I've got to go back and show them that if you're OK, you've got to play." That's a true Flyer right there.

I tell ya, I don't do much traveling to see Flyers but I was at that game and the Devils fans were great. We were hanging out with them and actually had a great time. I wasn't really worried but I figured we would get heckled and nothing. I actually felt for them and, considering my extreme hatred for Scott Stevens lol, I never imagined that.

I may not have worded my original point clear enough, but while those Devils fans might have been nice to you, they literally cheered when Lappy got hit with the puck, not when he got up. He could have lost vision in his eye and their was an arena full of idiots clapping about it. This is the same fan base that still openly mocks the Lindros/Stevens hit, which although clean still dramatically altered Lindros' life and hockey career. I have more respect for the select few Canucks fans who rioted than I do for the Devils fans who too pleasure from watching Lappy stumble across the ice with blood gushing out of his face.

If you were at the game, you may have a better perspective, but I was rewatching the whole horrible sequence, and it doesn't appear that the Devils fans were cheering Laperriere getting injured. In fact, there seems to be a good round of applause as he makes his way off.
