Not Haviland but this was 2nd best in my book. I can't complain compared to all of the speculation going around. The rookies should get their time and his system is offensive enough to stay defensively Lou. Like I said, I can't complain but we'll see how it goes next April!
What I like most is that we have a coach who knows the kids and the current group of Devil players and will be around to give some in-put come July 1st. Lou always said we wanted to start hiring within the organization and I'm happy to see he kept his word.
This is a really good choice, especially since Paul Martin wanted to wait until a new coach was hired. Now that it's Johnny Mac, a guy the players know, like and respect I'm sure that will work in our favour.
Johnny Mac did a great job in Lowell, and everyone down there raved about him and his work. Our d-men took a huge step forward in Lowell with him as head coach.
I'm sure Kovalchuk will have talks with some of the guys that have played for Johnny Mac before. I don't think he'll hear many negative things.
Good for Johnny Mac and our kids. I believe he will be a fine coach, if Lou let's him. What I mean is don't control the guy, let him be himself and do what he believes is the best way to go. Congrats!
Having Mac in the AHL leads me to believe that Lou won't try to control him. I see it as a test to see how Mac could do on his own with his own team, and look at the results. Hopefully this success translates to the NHL. I remember everyone calling for his head when he was an assistant, and the PP was as crappy as it is now.
