Corey Pronman's Top 50 NHL Prospects, Midseason

Looks like Corey Pronman Updated his Top 50 NHL Prospects, Midseason.

Looks like the Wild, Ducks and Detroit are leading with 4 prospects each on the list.

Top 3 are all Russians with Kuz, Yakupov and Grigs, followed by Granlund and Huberdeau.

He's certainly sticking to his pre-draft guns

Solid top 5, but I wouldn't put them in that order. Mine would be:

1. Evgeny Kuznetsov
2. Nail Yakupov
3. Alex Galchenyuk
4. Mikael Granlund
5. Mikhail Grigorenko

And just to correct the op, Huberdeau is in 6th, Pronman ranks Galchenyuk ahead of him.

No Zucker, even in the HM's, is a little perplexing. He's shown up Coyle and Larsson this year.

Some notable emissions from Finland, Määttä and Armia.

Tbh leaving Armia out is very understandable. Some are very high on him due to his impressive skills and upside, but I can't help but think that his lack of additude and bad decision making may prevent him from realizing his potential.

I don't know why Määttä isn't on the list though. I think he's a very complete player with all the tools to become a solid 2-way dman in the NHL.

I'm not normally a fan of Pronman's rankings, but I like list this for the most part. There's a few things that I don't agree with, but I can see a legitimate argument for both sides.

I'm shocked to see Corban Knight in the honourable mentions. I must say, I like it. Every time I've watched North Dakota this year I've really liked him. Very complete, hard working player.

interesting list, I like the ranking of Namestnikov, but I'm definitly missing Koekkoek, he is better then Ceci IMO and his +- will be solving it self in Windsor. Would be nice to know your argumentation Cory. And I wouldn't rank Bärtschi that bad, otherwise I like this list especially that Reilly isn't overhyped as he is by a lot of on this Board.

I'm glad as always to take any questions. I've seen a few left here already so I'll come back later and answer them all at once. Cheers

Holland and Gibson for Anaheim could have made arguments too(as I'm sure other players for other teams could, as well).

I think Silfverberg should switch with Zibanejad. Silf will be given a top 6 role. Zibanejad has struggled and while the potential is there, I doubt he has the same impact Silf has offensively. Zibanejad brings a lot more then offense but it's hard to see him as a top line player. Potential wise I would agree with you, but based on right now, I think Silfverberg is miles ahead.

Pronman never puts Goalies on his lists. So understandable why Gibson isn't listed.

Agreed, PPG in the AHL. The list of PPG rookies consists of Schultz(well over), Zucker and Granlund. Scoring more and making a significant higher impact than Coyle(on the list) and Larsson(HM).

Not to mention having Beau Bennett as an HM, when Zucker outperformed him at every stop including the two years they spent ad Denver and this year in the AHL.

Ah. Yes, that is understandable. I'm not complaining. Goalies tend to be pretty volatile developmentally. I'm pretty pleased to see Lindholm's jump up the rankings, and if not for his injury he could be even higher.

This guy is Eckland bad lol.

Yakupov did not have a good World Juniors, with NHL sources describing him as "a disappointment" or even "looked like an energy line forward"

lol

He's still one of the top prospects in the world. You're giving too much weight to the WJC. It can be a feather in any prospect's cap, but it doesn't make or break their rankings. Not unless they were borderline.

As others have said, I'd like to hear your reasoning on Zucker, Corey.

Pretty good list otherwise. Interesting to hear other thoughts.

So while Tarasenko is tearing up the KHL he stays at #7 but while some of these kids are having mediocre seasons in which ever league they are playing in they move up 2-3 spots?

Tim Erixon at #21 and Sven at only #24?

It's fine to disagree with his choices or rationale but I think it's fantastic that Corey is willing to spend time here (and Twitter) to discuss his list and the others not on it.
