It's nothing more than a photo op and it's within Thomas's right to decline the invite. I have no problem with him choosing to skip this based on his political views.

Talk about Tim Thomas skipping out on the White House invite if you want, but do not bring politics into it. I know it's tough to do, so I guess the burden is on the poster. Read what you're going to say carefully

I disagree completely. Isn't it entirely American that he didn't go? Isn't that, in part, what our country was founded upon?

That being said, if I'm him, I go to the White House regardless. I may agree or disagree with a sitting president's political beliefs, but it doesn't mean I think he's a bad person and not worthy of meeting.

I agree it is within his rights to do it. But it distracted from the team being honored and I wouldn't have done that to my teammates.

Bleacher report artice by Dan Levy pretty much sums it all up.

Im all for people for standing what they believe in. But blatantly doing so because of your political beliefs isn't a valid excuse to skip a team event of celebration by our Commander in Chief. There are plenty of other times Tim could have used his soapbox to draw attention to himself about his beliefs.

He's only your Commander In Chief if you're in the military. That doesn't apply to Mr. Thomas.

"The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;" -- Section 2 of the Constitution

Valid excuse? Are you really in position to make that determination? His employer specifically excused his presence, making it the very definition of valid.

And it's difficult for me not to summarily dismiss the thoughts and views of Dan Levy or anyone that calls someone they don't know a "coward" based on one act while himself hiding behind the shield of the internet. That's an opinion and thought process that I can say, almost without dilution, has little interest to me.

I don't agree with what Tim Thomas did. It's not what I would have done. I dislike most of the political scene and prefer it out of my sports. But to call someone a "coward" who has clearly opened himself up to judgment and ridicule (i.e. not cowardly) is at the very root of what I hate about both politics and sports. In short, it's not Tim Thomas' political stances that I hate. I hate that his political stance elicits the opinions of people like Levy.

Columbus fans plan to protest this Saturday for years of losing.

Guess the Nashville season series was the tipping point? Good for them though. Something needs to be done.

Joel Ward and his hefty contract seem to have lost their luster, given that I'm noticing him showing up in every Caps-based trade proposal, lately.

Sully and Lombardi too, but yeah more so Ward. What were they thinking?

SOB seems well liked in Colorado however.

he sure screwed the pooch against the Wild tonight, at least if you can judge by how bad the NBCSports announcers were bagging on him....(apparently he contributed directly to the Wild GWG)

You can't help but feel for CBJ fans. They have supported their team better than anyone could have hoped given the product on the ice. Hopefully the protest was well attended and ownership recognized that these protests might mean significant shedding of tickets and season tickets. I think that's the only way that they'll actually implement meaningful change in the organization.

I think everyone is on the same page that Ward got paid too much.

He had a hell of a playoff, but it obviously wasn't sustainable with his skillset.

I think CBJ has actually tried too hard to improve the team.

They are kind of the antithesis of the Poile approach. Every year they try to make some big "splash" to improve the team (mainly at forward), but their core issues are still the same. Pretty poor drafting even with high picks, very little to address team defense, not good depth, and coaching seems to be a major issue. I'll say it again, Poile's best two moves were signing Trotz and Korn.

So this is what they look like without Lidstrom. Getting absolutely pummeled. Fun to watch.

They lost on the road .... good for us. This leaves us three points back at the break ... one point behind the Blues with them having a game in hand. Time for a slugfest to the finish.
