Boston interested in the 4th Overall?

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...erall-pick.php

Quote:
Pro Hockey Talk has learned of a possible trade in the works, with the Boston Bruins dealing Blake Wheeler and Marc Savard to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. It's likely that the Bruins would also include their 15th overall pick in the deal as well, leaving Boston with both the second and fourth pick in the first round.
Savard+Wheeler+15th Overall for the 4th Overall?

I think that writer has been drinking. That's an insane amount to give up. However, it's on the internet, so if it doesn't happen, I'm complaining about the ownership.

Damn, Sam. You win by seconds and then I got to delete my dupe thread and you've done that, too. You can tell you've got seniority...

Anyway, here is my post from my duplicate/deleted thread.

Giving this a new thread because it's a rumor being reported connected with a media outlet. However, unless it gets legs I'll probably merge later.

Nonetheless,

Savard/Wheeler/15th pick

to CBJ for

4th pick

We can't afford that, Plus we have enough C's on the team right now. I know Vermette can play the wing but we have enough wings too.

No deal, I want a franchise Dman.

It's not going to happen, but Savard and Wheeler would solve a hell of a lot of problems.

If Howson were to turn this down, I'd hope he would be fired in an instant.

damn straight.

Provided it wasn't ownership saying no to the pricetag. Savard is the guy to play with Nash.

hell to the yes.

but Savard has a pretty hefty salary. at some point we'd need to drop Juice, but who'd want him for nothing?

Don't understand why people are obsessed with moving Brassard. Vermette could play wing if the need arises. Takes the pressure off Brassard to play behind a player like Savard, gives him time to grow into the role.

Because we could flip Brass + for a good defenseman. and Vermette is the best faceoff man we have and plays better at center than wing anyway.

In the completely hypothetical world that this trade would happen in, you've have two decent centers with 5 Year+ contracts. I'd move Brassard in an instant if that were to case.

But as I said earlier, this belongs in...

Not really obsessed with moving him... just he is probably one of our young gun prospects that could be movable if we picked up another center to land a D-Man. To land a DMan, we'd have to give something of value up. And if we move the 4th to Boston, then we would have Savard and could trade Brass or Filatov +prospect w/ a salary dump and maybe a 4th round pick to land a solid dman.

If this has any legs, I'm for it. Savard just got extended four years 7/7 /6.5/5 ending in 2013-14.

Agreed, we could do a Detroit and make Brass play wing until he is ready for C.

I changed my mind. I'd do this.

Or play Brass on a wing with Savard.

EDIT:
Damn I am slow in this thread. (Er, or just take out the "in this thread" part.)

Mmmmm....I'm not sure if that is exactly how it would happen, but any combo would make our top 6 extremely deadly.

says his cap hit is only 4 million. and the last 3 years of the deal only have him making 3 million, so maybe he retires at 36 or 37.

Savard isn't who I want to trade for IF we move the #4 pick, but I wouldn't say no to this deal. The #15 pick would have to be included. And, as others have said, we could then trade Brassard, + or Huselius, + for a PMD.

In my dream world I replace Boll with Svitov. That could be a very good forward lineup.

Actually it's better than that, $28M over 7 years (front loaded). Unfortunately it's too good to be true.

With the #15 we could maybe get one of these guys:

C - Nick Bjugstad
C - Mikael Granlund
RW - Emerson Etem
C - John McFarland
D - Derek Forbort
D - Dylan McIlrath
G - Jack Campbell
D - Jon Merrill
G - Calvin Pickard
