Avtsin unlikely

Bad news my friends.

From http://www.russianhockeyfans.com/pro...th-us-206.html

Quote:
At the end of May the KHL confirmed that all the contracts with our players are valid. Our youngsters will stay. Avtsin and Dvurechensky have a contract up to April 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Ehh, half expected this. Sucks that he won't be over, but if he ever does come over, he'll be ready to go straight to the pros, so that's an advantage I guess.

Meh I hope he gets more ice time this year. Would be a shame if they keep him for 8-10 minutes a game.

Yes hopefully he will. Dynamo doesn't look stacked like last year and he's one year older. Hopefully he'll have a bigger role in the team.

Just wake me up if a Russian prospect EVER comes over to play for the Canadiens. The will-they/won't-they debate always ends in "won't-they."

This is yet another sign to just forget about Russians.

...And it appears that Emelin may want to try the NHL after next year (blah blah blah, we've heard this before), as per http://www.russianhockeyfans.com/khl...-year-194.html

Avtsin is a free agent next year. I still think that he couldn't do more. He attended the draft, he skated in the prospects camp. What more should he do? If he's under contract, he's under contract.

That's what I believe has well. Didn't the KHL and NHL agreed to not mess with anybody's contract?

The kid was there at the combine. Was there at the draft even if he wasn't a 1st round pick. Was there at the 1st Habs camp development.

If this kid never comes, then stops drafting them. But I believe he will. Yet, for every Habs russian players that don't come or that leaves even after playing in the CHL, there's a Grachev and an Anisimov.....

We might refrain from picking them too much.....but tough to TOTALLY stop doing it.

Why draft russians at all if there's any risk of them not coming here? it makes no sense unless the pick is a future 1st liner or something.

No more russians. If I'm an NHL team, there is no way I'm drafting in mother Russia.

A wasted pick that hinders your organization for years to come. Can't afford this to happen in today's NHL.

That only hurts the Montreal Junior, really. Avtsin is better off playing in the KHL, if he has quality ice-time, than playing in an inferior level in the Q.

I don't mind if he really wants to play in NA. He'll arrive just one year later, and the KHL is a good league.

I don't mind, after some contemplation.... just glad he's playing hockey again after what could have been a career injury.

Avtsin is still one of my fav prospects.

Damn, I was fooled hard this summer, I really thought we would see both Emelin and Avstin come over. Oh well, hopefully at least one of them comes over at some point. I don't want Avtsin to get too comfortable over there, my fear is that a good season from him will get him a nice contract, more then we will pay him over here.

The guy is only 19, isn't NHL ready and the KHL is the best place for him to play right now. Besides, he only cost us a mid 4th round pick (no risk, high reward).

I'm not too keen on drafting Russians, but there is no reason to freak out about Avtsin just yet.

He'll probably have a bigger role in the KHL next year, might even be ready to make the jump to the NHL after that.

Russian players are being really stupid about this imo. They're burning bridges. We're probably one of the only teams that still drafts a lot of these lower pick Russians. In the future they won't get drafted anymore, teams just won't take the risk. Obviously guys like Ovy will always get biters, but I'm talking about 3rd 4th 5th round picks, even 2nd rounders, they just seem to be more likely to stay in Russia these days.

I don't care where he plays this year, as long as his wrist is okay.

He's 19, under contract and is choosing to honor that contract. Shows character IMO.

Each player makes his own individual decision. Emelin, for example, can't worry about whether Canadiens draft Russians in the future or not. He decision is based on what he feels is best for him not on what is best for future draft prospects from Russia.

It's good if he plans to come over next year. However, for some reason, it never happens that way. They get too comfortable(I don't blame them, it is home) and end up getting ice-time and a nice contract. Suddenly, their desire disappears.

Honestly, imagine you didn't go to school and got 60k a year and good benefits. You always wanted to go to school and get a degree, but you find out starting salary after getting your degree is even less than what you're making now. Do you go back? Maybe not.

Once he gets too comfortable...goodbye. The only russians I trust to come here are superstars and kids who make the effort to play in the CHL before they are drafted. Even then, it's not foolproof, but very easy to make promises across the world.
