The Habs should definitely make a pitch for Brent Burns. He would be the perfect partner for Markov and he can step up as a #1 in case Markov gets hurt again or he leaves in the summer.

His injury situation is overblown. The big problem was that the Wild doctors basically lied to him about his recovery and forced him back in the line-up too early. I'm surprised he didn't demand a trade after that debacle.

Yeah we should push hard for Burns as long as we don't give up much.

I really like our prospect pool atm.

Kristo, Subban, Eller, Pacioretty, Palushaj, Klubertanz, Avtsin, Trotter, Desharnais, Leblanc, Engqvist, White, Maxwell, Nattinen, Bennett, Schultz, Russel, Dumont, and Benoit Pouliot.

I'd like to try and build on this or keep it as is, If we go after Burns, I want to be giving up Kbros Hamr, not much more.

I never said anything about Clutterbuck, he is probably one of Minnesota's untouchables, because he such a fan favorite.

I would like a package with either of these pieces:

Sheppard/Gillies/Burns/1st in 2010

Wild will never trade Burns. They will most likely trade Sheppard.

actually it would only be adding ~8-9M, depending on how much Pleks signs for.

they have the cap space to absorb that, if the owner is willing to spend closer to the cap.

with that 8-9M extra, they'd be getting a potentially perfect fit with Koivu down the middle, not too mention someone that could very well mesh excellently with Havlat.
(pleks)

in a.kost they get another offensive weapon, a bit of a risk, but likely good for at least 20 goals, if not a lot more if he finally breaks out.

Brunette- Koivu- A.kost
Havlat- Pleks- Lats
Miettinen- Bouchard(?)- Kobasew

they should have their goal-scoring issues solved with that top 9 group...

on defense, Spacek is obviously a big downgrade from Burns, but burns does have the concussion concerns (which is a big risk on our end, especially considering he's the key piece coming the other way).
but with still some cap room remaining, they could add another bottom 3 defender to give themselves a pretty solid group

Zidlicky- Schultz
Spacek- Barker
Zanon- UFA

on our end, we do get the best player (at least signed, pleks is not far i'd argue), but he comes with a big asterix given the concussion problems.
Gilles is a decent bottom 6 prospect, but he still a little bit away from NHL ready, so really we're taking on some considrable risk by moving 3 roster players in exchange for 1, who is an injury risk.

I say Burns is worth the risk, especially given the cap space it also gives us, but by no means is it lopsided in our favour, imo.

i don't really think they'd be putting Burns on the market, but if he is available, i think a pakage like that could meet both teams needs. The concussion issue would certainly dimish his value, so if he does get moved, i think it would have to be in a deal where either they got much less value, or they take on risk as well... this deal gives them some quality but with risk...

The cheap 4th liner playing on our 2nd line? The one who scored 25 goals after coming here? Guess 25 goals are easy to come by there eh?

But someone like Burns isn't? He has had two concussions in the last two seasons, along with a shoulder injury requiring surgery. Not to mention he played concussed after he was mis-diagnosed.

As far as Bouchard goes, he is taking the long but effective approach to coming back from a concussion. No sense in rushing to stink it up half a season and risk being destroyed again like Booth. Bergeron missed a long time, but has since returned to be an impact player. Also, PM is still young and has a lot of years in front of him.

We're bad trading partners sadly.

He has contemplated on dealing back up Harding, Dman Brent Burns to the 1st round pick 9th overall.

It says he has been getting about a half dozen trade offers per day, to me it shows the trade market will be busy draft day and this summer.

What could Montreal offer Minnesota for either the 1st round draft pick or Dman Brent Burns?
he is willing to deal his ninth pick as the draft really drops off after the top two.... its a weak draft this year

This is the deepest draft in years!

The picks after Seguin and Hall drop of in "Franchise" players, but the scouts are saying picks in the third round can be a strong as the first round picks.

Your mistaking the weak draft of next year, not this year.
