The Habs should definitely make a pitch for Brent Burns. He would be the perfect partner for Markov and he can step up as a #1 in case Markov gets hurt again or he leaves in the summer.
His injury situation is overblown. The big problem was that the Wild doctors basically lied to him about his recovery and forced him back in the line-up too early. I'm surprised he didn't demand a trade after that debacle.
they should have their goal-scoring issues solved with that top 9 group...
on defense, Spacek is obviously a big downgrade from Burns, but burns does have the concussion concerns (which is a big risk on our end, especially considering he's the key piece coming the other way).
but with still some cap room remaining, they could add another bottom 3 defender to give themselves a pretty solid group
on our end, we do get the best player (at least signed, pleks is not far i'd argue), but he comes with a big asterix given the concussion problems.
Gilles is a decent bottom 6 prospect, but he still a little bit away from NHL ready, so really we're taking on some considrable risk by moving 3 roster players in exchange for 1, who is an injury risk.
I say Burns is worth the risk, especially given the cap space it also gives us, but by no means is it lopsided in our favour, imo.
i don't really think they'd be putting Burns on the market, but if he is available, i think a pakage like that could meet both teams needs. The concussion issue would certainly dimish his value, so if he does get moved, i think it would have to be in a deal where either they got much less value, or they take on risk as well... this deal gives them some quality but with risk...
He just missed the entire 2009-2010 season because of concussion
too much of a gamble
But someone like Burns isn't? He has had two concussions in the last two seasons, along with a shoulder injury requiring surgery. Not to mention he played concussed after he was mis-diagnosed.
As far as Bouchard goes, he is taking the long but effective approach to coming back from a concussion. No sense in rushing to stink it up half a season and risk being destroyed again like Booth. Bergeron missed a long time, but has since returned to be an impact player. Also, PM is still young and has a lot of years in front of him.
Chuck Fletcher has already stated that the UFA market is weak and that it isn't the way his team is going to be improved this summer. He has said he will be active in the trade market, looking for a top 6 forward (preferably a centre to complement Mikko Koivu).
He has contemplated on dealing back up Harding, Dman Brent Burns to the 1st round pick 9th overall.
