(these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion)
ROSTER: 19; CAP: $58.8m; PAYROLL: $52.228m; CAP ROOM: $7.112m BONUSES: $0.540m

I put the cap up to 58.8mill, as reports have the cap going up 2mill on the 56.8. Plus I gave reasonable raises to the players who are RFA's.

It says the Habs have 7.112mill left to sign without Plekanec. We basically need 2 more 4th liners, which we could probably get out of the AHL with White and such. A second line center, unless we put Eller in the position as they feel he's ready. A backup goalie. We could possibly sign Lombardi roughly around 3-3.5mill/per and still have 4mill for a backup goalie, Biron or Theodore just 2 names that come to mind for a good mentor for Price. Then with what ever left over bring in 2 4th liners probably White and another for their cheap salaries, leave us with around 2.5mill left in cap and we could go into the season like this:

Pouliot Gomez Gionta
Cammalleri Lombardi A.Kostitsyn
Moen Moore Eller
Pyatt Lapierre White/Maxwell/Pacioretty

Markov Spacek
Subban Hamrlik
Gill Gorges

O'byrne

Price
Biron/Theodore

The available cap space can then be used to obtain better wing support for the young center. Or, perhaps PG is thinking a short-term (Cullen?) solution until Eller is ready? Would also be cheaper and provide the Habs with some cap-space to improve the wings. They wouldn't have to commit long-term to Pleks...who knows.
Do I really need to dumb it down? It's obvious what I meant by my thread title.

I'm willing to bet anything Plekanec is gone. He's probably asking for 5+ millions per season, and the team hasn't got enough cap space left.

I'm confident that plek's is loyal and if they reach a place in the negotiations that both parties like he will sign. he really does seem like he wants to stay in MTL so i'm not worried about him leaving.

Clearly, PG want us to get bigger.
If Plek is gone, I don't see why we'd go for someone of the exact same size.

The dumbest thing the Habs can do if Plekanec walks is to stick Eller in his spot.

Let the kid progress at a normal pace and start out in the bottom 6 instead of throwing him to the wolves like Pacioretty and Price.

more the time past less chance he sign here. I think the Habs don't want to give him the money he will receive when he will be a UFA.

I guess he will have something like 25 millions for 5 years

There's no logic in Gauthier going out and say he couldn't get more established players for Halak because of cap issues if he doesn't re-sign Plekanec before July 1st. If it goes pass that I'm turning the avatar option on and I'll have one of my own.

I think Plekanec has never been anything but brutally honest. He says he sees other players who've left the Canadiens and then regretted it and he doesn't want to be one of them. He says he loves Montreal and doesn't see himself anywhere else. I'm inclined to believe he's sincere. The only way he won't re-sign is if he gets seriously low-balled or if his agent is greedy and manages to convince Pleks to go for the money.

He's definitely going to test the market me thinks. Ideally he tests the market doesn't like what he sees, and comes back for a reasonable deal like 4.25mill a year for 6 years or something.

Though it's just as likely he gets blown away and signs somewhere for like 6 mill. I think thats why Gauthier got Eller, cuz either way he's protected.

If another company offered you 25% more to jump ship...you wouldn't? I know I'd at least give them my attention.

Cash is king. the diff between 4 and 5 milly might not be much to yall...I know it's a lot to me.

I still think we need to re-sign Moore for the 3rd line, Lapierre should stay as a RW.
Personally I think it's just as likely we give that money to Frolov.

Pouliot-Gomez-Gionta
Frolov-Eller-Cammy
Lapierre-Moore-Moen
Pyatt-White-Schultz

At this point I'd just try to get some picks for the Kostitsyns, I dont want their personalities around guys like Eller...

I also think Schultz has an outside chance of making the roster. Physically he is ready, and I noticed gautier used the plural when discussing young players acquired pushing for a roster spot...
