Lundqvist + Staal + Gilroy + 1st?

I wouldn't do it but I think the value is there.

Would be a more interesting topic if you were talking about how much money he's going to get with his next contract. He signed a five year extension in July of 2007. I guess he's due to re-up in 2012 which doesn't sound to far away.

Malkin will be due the following year.

Crosby is the best player in the NHL. The only was he gets dealt is if the Pens go into rebuild, or he wants to move and thus rejects the inevitable league Max offer he will get from the Pens before expiration in 2013.

lol at some people freaking out saying "crosby will never get traded.

Of course he won't, the thread is for fun to see how much it would require in order to get him.

Crosby... is worth a little more than ovechkin, maybe not to HF posters but to GMs for sure.

The 1st is most likely late, not that great. Green, well I'll just say there's a lot of other defensemen i'd rather have. Backes is a great player.

Well, in reality it was kind of like this:

McSorley for Gelinas
Krushelnyski for Carson
Gretzky for cash and picks.

And its a totally different era. Cash can no longer be included. That deal wouldn't have went down without the cash. It was more of a sale to pull Pocklington's arse out of financial hell.

I know why this thread was made. OP is obviously thinking about the games top star switching teams, just like the Lebron James sweepstakes. But this isn't the NBA, and it ain't gonna happen.

in a cap world its gonna be hard to find a combination of players that make sense, but I bet hall, eberle, MPS, and a few firsts would be a starting point

I know this is a hypothetical sort of scenario being discussed here, but I think it's important to point out that having Sidney Crosby on your team is basically a license to print money. Between the tickets and merchandise he's responsible for selling, to the TV exposure, to the perhaps unquantifiable impact of having the face of the NHL on your team...his value to the Penguins is millions upon millions of dollars more than anyone who could replace him.

IF he were to be traded, it would be on the Penguins' terms, for the simple fact that even if Pittsburgh had financial difficulties (which they do not, in large part because of Sid), moving Sidney Crosby would probably make those issues worse and not better. Any package for Sid would have to involve a young, quality center; a 1st line winger, 1st pairing defender, or both; 1-2 quality prospects and 1-2 quality picks. Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Anaheim would be the most likely teams. I couldn't see him being traded in-conference, although Tampa could possibly put together a good offer. Chicago has the assets to get someone like Crosby, but it would involve too much salary going back the other way.

In any case, it would never happen voluntarily. And further, as I said, it's hard to imagine a scenario where trading Crosby would be compelled due to financial problems because his presence on that team is of absolutely absurd financial benefit to the Penguins. If the Penguins did start having financial difficulties, they would most likely move Malkin, who brings much less revenue than Sid does.

Only thing i could think of would be

Hemsky
Hall
Eberle
MPS
2 1sts

And still I could see an argument for both sides as to why thats a bad deal...

Crosby

20 Players from the Leafs, of their choice.
Every Draft Pick the Leafs have for the next 15 years.

That would do it

Which was a short ride. Pocklington is kind of a joke. Too bad he killed the oilers for the 90s out of greed.
