When are Stewart and Mueller gonna get signed?

The Avs so far, for me, have just resigned the players we don't need(Budaj, Koci) but when are we gonna make offers to the guys that were productive this last year?

every contract that's been signed is a pretty easy one. Mueller and Stewie are naturally going to be more complicated. I'm unconcerned at this point. If they hit the RFA market, that's when I get a little worried.

I agree. The Avs always take their time signing RFAs. They'll get Stewart, Mueller, and Quincey signed.

Yeah, they'll sign them, don't worry.

Mueller doesn't have all that much negotiation room and Stewart is a class 1 need. It'll get done.

I'd be surprised if Mueller, Stewart and Quincy weren't signed by July 1st. But if July 1st rolls around and they're not signed then I'd be pretty concerned.

It sucks that every player has to be signed within two weeks of the Cup Finals. Imagine if only the offseason was, say, four months long...then GMs would have all the time they need for proper negotiations

I heard a rumor that Sherman wants to let Stewart, Mueller, et al to be signed to offer sheets so he can take the draft picks.

I would be stunned if he couldn't get all three signed. With all the crap shoved down our throats about building from within, there's no way Sherman will let three pretty major pieces waltz out, especially when it's unlikely that two of them (Mueller, Quincey) would receive a salary high enough to make the draft pick compensation enough to soften the blow of losing their services.

If I recall correctly, the Avs have never been very fast to sign its more valuable players. IMO its the best strategy is to sign the easy ones first so you know what the "depth" will cost you and then you can go to the core pieces and say we have X dollars and the team around you will be Y. We are willing to give you Z, so either sign with that or goodbye. (with a little wiggle room if its workable).

And really, there is almost a 2 week window to work in still before the 1st. No big rush. I also think its not the worst idea to maybe wait to see what the draft brings if your having a rough negotiation with a player. You never know what deals might be out there and I would imagine as mid level talent player seeing a guy or two drafted that could replace you might motivate you to bend a bit more to the clubs side of the line.

Exactly. Mueller had a good twenty game or so streak with us, but beyond that, he hasn't exactly been amazing in his entire career. And Quincey played well in the beginning of the season but tapered off pretty dramatically near the end. Neither will get big or long contracts.

Stewart is the only one I can see any team breaking the bank for.

the avs can match any offer made for stewie, and unless someone offers like 5+ million (compensation of what 1st, 2nd and a 3rd) we will match any offer

Any predictions on their contracts?

I was thinking:
Stewart- 2 years/$3 million per.
Mueller- 1 year/$2 million.

I'd say those are reasonable.

It's not like offer sheets are a huge threat anyway. League wide theres been 5 total in the 5 years since the lockout.

On a one year deal I think Mueller gets closer $3M based on last years performance. He made $1.7M last year and injury or not he really showed us something. His injury will impact the term more than the amount but it will have some impact on amount as well.

Yep Kessel, Vanek, Penner, Backes and Benier.

It seems like more because two of the whiniest parties in the NHL were involved, the Vancouver Canucks and Brian Burke. Listening to them ***** you'd think it was the end of the ****ing world.

Take it and run with MBP. For Mueller I would rather do one year at $2.8M so we can see if his concussion history is going to limit his career.

Only issue with signing either player to one year deals has to be that if either keeps the momentum they had this year next year they will be far to expensive for the Avs to afford.
