We certainly thank him...

How about Homers ringing "endorsment" of Parent.

<<<“I think Ryan is a good kid,” Holmgren said. “He is an extremely hard worker. We certainly thank him for his services and his time here. He has a lot of upside as a player and he is going back to an organization that obviously knows him because they drafted him.”>>>
A polite way of saying Don't let the door hit you in the Arse.

Clearly, this move was favored by Lavy. I'm sure it was the first item on the to do list for this off season.

I just love how we go out and get ****ing players. Coming off a SCF, we go out and improve our defense a week and a half later. No wonder everyone hates us. **** them! I love the Orange and Black.

That lineup is scary, especially the speed of that 3rd line.

Gagne-Richards-Brown
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JVR-Giroux-Legein/Testwuide/Nodl
Carcillo/Powe-Betts-Lappy
Carcillo/Powe

Pronger-Coburn
Timonen-Hamhuis
Teubert-Bartulis

Quick
Boucher
Worse comes to worse ill swing this in NHL 10 cuz I like it so much lol. Brown in O&B would be epic in itself.

It's also what has landed on in cap trouble; dealing like it's 1992. Still, we have Rathje coming off the books, so that's something.

And also he stepped up to the degree that he was arguably Vans best or second best dman in the post season. Not bad for a "horrid" #5 dman. The probablem WE have with our 5th and 6th dmen is that thats all they are, AT BEST. They cannot step up, they cannot be counted on even a few minutes a game. Watching our last pairing dmen almost gave me coronaries everytime they stepped out on the ice.
Right, it was after the Olympics but he is still horrid. Canucks fans can't stand him. Character guy? We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Excellent trade, as long he signs. If one of Coburn/Carle will be move, I reluctantly agree that it should be Carle. His value should be high after posting a great season (albeit paired with Pronger). I really do like Carle here, though. I think we often get too wrapped up in evaluating the individual and how someone like Carle would do if he isn't with Pronger, but it's no more than a moot point because that's the situation. However, as poor as Coburn played during points of this season, he was very good in the playoffs (despite his final SCF +/-), and if he's signable he should be kept.

At any rate, glad to see that Homer isn't sitting around waiting for July 1st.

Huh? We wouldn't be getting Hamhuis for Parent a year ago...it would of cost a lot more. Infact wasn't it rumored that the deal was Parent and Coburn at the deadline last year for a rental of Hamhuis?

They should just keep everybody...

Pronger, Timonen, Coburn, Hamhuis, Carle and Bartulis. The biggest weakness in the playoff run was the inability to play the bottom pairing D and goaltending. Just trade Carter for a decent and cheap goalie, and problem solved

They're going to sign Hamhuis. You don't trade a player for the rights to someone and not sign him.

This is true. I was thinking that when I heard about the trade. This is why they have agents after all.

I think this puts Holmgren in the driver's seat with Coburn. If they sign Hamhuis, which I expect they will, they're saying Coburn could be expendable. Players will want to stay in Philly after getting so close to the cup and he could ask for a bit less money to do that.

One of the best perks about losing the Cup finals this year. We now get players that know the Flyers are (finally) a legit Cup contender (they did win 2 games, after all), and kind of like the Hossa mentality, are more willing to sign if the price is right.....or a little bit less than right.

Yeah, we already have limited cap space, and now we go and get someone who we will sign for 4 or 5 mil at least. He is definitely an upgrade, but our hands will be so tied financially that our options in the future will be limited. I like the deal, I just don't like the inevitable cap inflexibility.

It sends a huge message to Coburn. And it looks kinda like a middle finger. I know the guy wants to get his payday, but if he and Holmgren are way off on the number Coburn must be asking for something outrageous. Has Homer signed anybody to what we'd consider cheap or even under market value?

Richards gets complete security, and we signed him really quickly as soon as he showed any sign of breaking out.

Pronger is getting market value in cash, just his cap hit is lower because it's frontloaded and paid into his retirement. We can't do that with Hamhuis/Coburn because they're only 27/25.

I don't mind locking up Hamhuis long-term (5-6-7 years) at Carle's price. That'd make me a very happy man. Hamhuis has just hit his prime.

I do want to move Carle and retain Coburn. Coburn's a year or two away from his prime, and his prime is going to be far better than Carle's I think.
