They just signed Malholtra and traded Grabner because they didn't really need him. They have Hodgson and Schroeder on the way. I bet they have zero interest in Cogliano. Plus they have Mason Raymond who is basically a better version of Cogs.

I'd like Bieksa though. I hate him but that just means he's done a good job for the Canucks.

TSN reporting Vancouver has signed Jeff Tambellini.

That tells me a little something about Steve Tambellini, and him not signing his son here.

He is professional about his job. He knows Jeff is not a fit here, and not letting his emotion get in his way.

And he is smart enough to know it would have brought some unwarranted pressure onto his son if he sign him to play here.

I think Tencer's biggest source is Stauffer.

...and Rishaug is one of Stauffer's biggest sources.

He said years ago he never would sign him to a team he was managing.

Update: Rumor has Souray going to the Columbus Blue Jackets for either Mike Commodore or R.J. Umberger. It is possible it could be a multi-player deal. Could Andrew Cogliano also be on his way to Columbus? Stay tuned.

@DougMaclean Hearing Savard to Cgy:. I can confirm Cgy called to inquire if Savard was willing to waive his NTC, only to be told no.

Tambellini spoke at a presser that he won't sign his son here for personal reasons.

While I do agree with cheap vets at the bottom of the roster, I am very much against throwing kids to the fire. I fully expect next year Penner-Horcoff-Hemsky will be first line, followed by more kids.

The thing with Dustin Brown is not only is he perfect for the 2nd line RW spot after Hemsky, he does a bit of everything, while adding heart and soul type commitment. He hits, plays on the PK, scores, drive to the net, and is a leader. More importantly, I think he helps Gagner's and whoever else is on the LW(probably MPS) in developing. He adds a defensive presence, and also a player who digs pucks out of the corner.

While I know we have as much chance of getting him as we do of say, signing Kovvy, I do like the type of player he is.

I'm a big fan of two-way games. Both on D and O. I feel those types of players add alot to teams. Makes winning easier.

And Brown only makes $3 million for 3 more seasons. Not overpriced.
With the overpriced part. I was thinking more of either overpriced in the trade value you would have to give up (because they are not available and the team wants to keep them). Plus I think you were hoping for guys like Paul Martin or Michalek. Who we not only have near zero chance of getting but would also cost more term and money than a team just starting a total rebuild have much business in getting. Maybe by trade but not as UFAs. Just my opinion.

Apparently the Oil are shopping for a 2 way third line center. Not sure if they will get that guy. But that certainly seems to fit what you are hoping for. Though maybe not as high as you shooting for on all these moves?

Doug Maclean is just as bad at this as he was a GM. So he says Savard to Calgary, but then goes on to say it's not happening because Savard said no. What an idiot. And plus, he's only about 6 hours too late on this one.

Gotta agree with this.

Calgary has almost no cap space left and is about ten steps behind where they were at this time last year. They might be looking up north with the Oilers getting Hall and thinking that a #1 overall would be the way to go.

Actually Savard doesn't want to sign anywhere out West, not just in Calgary. He wants to stay in the East so he is close to his family.
