What about with Hartnell added and either Stoll or a mid-round pick coming from LA

Exactly. A young, cheap, above-average goaltender; exactly what the Flyers need.

He's not more capable than those goalies, particularly Halak, maybe soon Price, but he's as capable as them.

Carter (5.00m) + Carle (3.44m) + Hartnell (4.20m) = 12.64m

for

Quick (1.80m) + ELC + Draft pick + Draft pick = 2.5m~? Somewhere around there.

LA adds 10m in salary? Not quite, haha.

Take out the "or a mid round pick" and insert Stoll as also suggested. Now you've added $3.6m going back to Philly. LA is looking to add 5-on-5 scoring and also get better on defense with a puck-mover. Instead of signing FAs, they simply make a trade to do so with assets they've been stockpiling for just the right occasion.

That being said, it will be shocking if LA trades Quick or Bernier this summer.

I am thinking more and more that Lombardi is interested in Carter though. He highly values centers; I'm sure he'd love to roll Kopitar/Carter/Schenn for the next 5-6 years.

Hextall just said they won't be trading a goalie this off-season(on NHL Live).

I agree, I can't see how someone wouldn't give up a Gagne who is 30 years old going on 31 making 5 mil with one year left before becoming a UFA for a goalie who has been stellar the past 2 season, makes nothing and is signed for 2 years. I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Too bad that ain't happening. Look what Montreal just got for Halak. I like Quick, but he is not getting anything better than that package.
