While losing an asset for nothing would sting, I would rather that be the case then overpaying him so that you didn't lose an asset for nothing.

What team would trade for them, seeing that Hamhuis is obviously pretty intent to either test free agency, or sign with one specific team. It would be very bad asset management on the other team's part to trade for someone's right that close to July 1st in that situation. That's just my thinking on it anyway.

Yeah, wouldn't count on it... even though I agree.

If we can't sign him to a deal, no one is going to trade for his rights.

I have to admit I'm getting a bit worried considering Homer said he was focusing on getting this deal done quickly. However, I see Hammer signing here for 4-4.2 mil for 4-5 years.

there is always a GM who thinks he can do no harm and can convince a player to play for his team. He could get a late rd pick for him imo. Or futures contingent on if he signs.

May be hard to get something done considering that the draft is this weekend.

However, it's about as close to a fact as it's going to get. We'll try to get him signed, if we can't that won't be because we're unwilling to pay for him, but because he wants to go to the open market.

Giving up an asset for his contract would be beyond stupid for another team at that point. But, hey, there's always Atlanta.

Eh... not like we have a lot of picks to worry about.

His agent is also based in LA, so they can talk face-to-face in LA.

Maybe the Flyers are trying to get the Coburn deal done before resigning Hamhuis. So this may very well be a deal that gets done over the weekend. Holmgren is going to wait to see what the deal is with Coburn to see how much cash Holmgren has for Hamhuis.
Coburn could very well be making very high demands and the Flyers could move him tomorrow. I know the Flyers want to go with those top 5 with Hamhuis, but Coburn could very well be forcing their hand.

This. Coburn is RFA, Hamhuis is UFA.

At least if Coburn is offer-sheeted, we could match or get a ton of picks.

I've got a feeling something totally off the wall is going to happen with Hamhuis and or Coburn/Carle.

Hamhuis: "Pay me 4 million"
Coburn: "Pay me 4 million"
Carle: "Oh ****, not again!"

Exactly. I'd rather lose Parent for a 7th then overpay Hamhuis and make the cap situation worse and have it potentially effect Giroux/Gagne/Carter ect.

No goalie on the horizon for the Flyers, and the talks between the club and Dan Hamhuis’ camp have not yielded anything substantial. Sources says the two sides are not even close to a deal. Holmgren would like to return to Philly this weekend with Hamhuis locked up. Unless things pick up quickly, that won’t happen.

Timmeh is an idiot when he editorializes, but he has good contacts and works within the same corporate entity. If he's saying they're not close to a contract as of now, I believe it.

Predators fans say he is a hard line union guy who might be dead set on hitting the market. They think he wants $5M.
