C'mon Niedermayer, in those BC tourism ads you said 'You've got to be here!' Well, prove it..

I think Gillis will go the trade route. Philly is probably going to throw too much at Hamhuis, and UFA D-men in general will probably be overpriced. I think Niedermayer likes playing in Anaheim where no one pays much attention instead of in Canada, where his play would be scrutinized and criticized by the media constantly. He certainly showed his age in the gold medal game with those two give-aways, one leading to the tying goal, and one that forced Luongo to rob Pavelski in OT.

The year Scott Niedermayer signs with the Canucks is the year Scott Niedermayer's knees fall apart and becomes useless. I just have a feeling that if we ever signed him he'd just be a complete disaster.

Toni Lydman would be a great addition if we move another Dman as part of a package to land a top pairing guy.

The Devils seems to be stacking up on old vets that have won cups in Jersey before.

Gallagher also pointed out his connection to Maclean in that article as well so it doesnt seem to be out of the realm.

It also seems like his family (understandably) has alot of say in where he would play.

Oh and we need dmen who can play 20+ minutes of solid hockey a night not kaberle.

He's probably one of the best options. Kaberle, Edler, and Ehrhoff is a nice set of powerplay options. Plus Salo if he's still capable.
Not when Hodgson is in the asking price though.

if you notice the jersey, the logo is reversed too, that proved the whole picture is reversed.

I find it hilariously ironic that Niedermayer himself might likely never end up playing for the Canucks, which is why I tend to sigh whenever I see that ad .

Maybe offer Scott a 2 year deal, and throw in the mix of his brother Rob, might entice him to play here.

More importantly, has anyone sold a BBQ to Niedermayer yet?

Niedermayer seems to be taking it year by year, his choice.

I think a $10m offer would get his attention. Would have to dump Bernier and Bieksa, but it would be possible.

I count 6 good UFA dmen - Volchenkov, Martin, Kubina, Michalek, Lydman Hamhuis - plus Mitchell of course. If you figure there are up to 29 teams vying for their services, it has to be considered an accomplishment to sign one of them.

By the way, if Canucks draft a dman in the 1st round, and another later in the draft that brings the Canucks D prospect pool to 10 from zero (1 if you include Ellington) since Gillis was appointed GM a little over 2 years ago - very impressive.

1 2010 1st rounder?
2 Sweatt (not 25 until August)
3 Tanev
4 Connauton
5 Sauve
6 Andersson
7 Price
8 Oberg
9 Zimmerman
10 2010 late round pick

I wish that was the biggest problem we had with Messier during his time here.

Yes that would create some good options for the PP but something tells me AV would find a way to screw it up by putting Bieksa out there.

What type of player is Kurtis Foster? He's a big body who put up some good numbers with Tampa last season...is he an offensive defensemen? Is he good defensively?

PP specialist, poor defensively. Seems like a bigger version of MAB.

Thanks for that.

Michalek tops my list right now as he's a steady defensive defensemen. No, he's not a top pairing guy, but he's a durable player who's solid in his own end who could slide into our top four. Shaone Morrisonn would be a nice addition for the bottom pairing as well. (this is all assuming Niedermayer goes Anaheim or Retire and has no interest in Vancouver )
