Who should they have brought back last year though?
The only ones that may have helped to me would have been Bouillon and maybe Lang. And they're debatable.
The rest Tanguay, Schneider, Brisebois, Dandenault, Kovalev, Koivu, Kostopolous, etc don't really see it. And I wonder if Komisarek's shoulder is a chronic problem?
Don't see much lost, last year anyway.
Streit is one of the very few of recent years should have been kept, in my opinion.
Kosto was a good team guy. He was excellent in his role. He fought bigger guys, I don't know about you, but that sparks a team big time. He would fight anyone if it defended our guys. Don't care if he got his face smashed in, it showed no fear. I have full respect for the guy.

Agree, should have included him with Lang & Bouillon. Moen was a good signing to me but no one really fully replaced Kostopoulous impact. May have hurt Latendresse early too.
I posted this in trade proposal thread a few days ago:
Quote:
Sign Jokinen to 1-2 year 4.25 mil/year
Why? He's had some bad years but is a big center and has played excellent under JM.
Sign Colby Armstrong.

ROSTER: 22; CAP:$56.8m; PAYROLL: $56.303m; CAP ROOM: $1.137m BONUSES: $0.640m
Still 1.137 mil in cap room should we want to make a trade.
As you can see, this doesn't even include the cap at 58.8 million. I left it at 56.8.
Don't worry about two-way center like Plek. Gomez, Eller, Armstrong, Sergei Kostitsyn, Lapierre, Moen, Pyatt, White & Gionta can all play PK. So can Cammalleri I bet, but doubt they put him in.

I would've loved TK and Moen on our team. Would've been pretty good checking/energy line with lapierre down the middle.
No offense, but complaining someone didn't put a - is like me complaining you didn't capatalize the beginning of your sentence. It's pretty obvious he meant re-sign.
interesting. If they are really trying to sign pleks that hard, and Pierre gauthier himself saying that eller is ready for NHL duty next season, makes me wonder if they're trying to (somehow) dump gomez.
Why do we want to assume that eller is ready for consistent duty as a #2 centre?
For a long time, all we wanted is a BIG top 2 center. Here is one. A legit top 2 center, who played great under JM. 34, 39, and 38 goals in 3 years under Martin. He can possibly come cheap. You take him on a short term deal and don't look back. IMO, if all goes well, Eller will be 2nd line center in 1-2 years and guys like Leblanc will be in the system. Maxwell/Engqvist will most likely be on team at that point as well.
Beware of a supposed core player (which a legit top 2 centre should be) who is about to play on his 5th team in 5 years. But hey, while we're at it, lets take a stab at yashin too

I understand, but to be fair, Calgary even traded away a supposed franchise d-man. They needed short-term results and it didn't work out. Florida traded him the year after the zednik incident. If you recall, it was his skate that almost killed zednik.

And they traded him for a guy who tried to kill his own goalie

Signing Jokinen ahead of Plekanec would probably shut up all the people calling for a big center, because he would turn out to be a sizeable downgrade at not much of a discount.

Phaneuf and Jokinen both have something in common. They have a history of causing friction in the dressing room either directly or indirectly. Now, its interesting that Phaneuf has been given the captaincy role despite his reputation, but I think its easier for him to turn his reputation around because the leafs are still identifying their leaders, so its like a fresh start for Dion.
In Montreal, I think a strong leadership group has already developed, so I would be very cautious of allowing a guy like Jokinen into that locker room. If there was a common theme from montreal's summer last season, they brought in character with every free agent signing they made. There was little to no flakiness in Mara, Moen, Cammalleri, Gionta, and Spacek.
I also don't think Dominic Moore is returning next season if we do lock up Pleks. If we don't, I can see Moore returning and Eller taking the number 2 spot in the center position.
More likely that Moore is temporary poor man's number 2, with the hope that eventually Eller takes over.

No shooters from the point (Remember when Hamrlik said he would replace Souray? bahahah) other than Subban, no mobility other than Subban, no nothing.
Taking Hamrlik out and replacing him with Paul Martin, Hamhuis or Volchenkov would be ideal.
Here is my plan:
Since we seem to play without Markov half the time anyway, trade Markov, AK46, O'Byrne and Moen to Washington in exchange for Alzner, Laich and Fehr, on condition they take Hamrlik, too.
We then sign Volchenkov and Frolov, and re-sign both Pleks and Moore.
Pouliot-Gomez-Gionta
Cammalleri-Plekanec-Frolov
Laich-Eller-Fehr
Tom Pyatt-Moore-Lapierre
Spacek-Subban
Alzner-Volchenkov
Gill-Gorges
Price
Cheap backup
We still have room for three spares and over two million for deadline acquisitions.
