I want nothing to do with Hartnell. No offense. If it was centered around Backstrom and Carter, I would listen (obviously we include more). Trading Clutterbuck doesn't seem likely to happen.

Why wouldn't you want anything to do with Hartnell? You don't like grit and offense ability?

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Too many hurdles for it to happen though.

On paper, I would do it in a heartbeat. Minnesota needs a player like Carter, Hartnell's basically an overpaid Clutterbuck and it would get rid of Backstrom's contract. However in reality I don't know how Minnesota would be able to sign both Carter and Koivu next year along with taking away a lot of flexibility the club is building towards after next year. Maybe if the Wild were in a better place competitively, but for now I'm saying no.

It would be a dream come true to move backstroms contract for offense. We all saw in the playoffs that the goalies were overshadowed by scoring and good defense. Leighton and Niemi are lightyears away from the top goaltenders in this league.

Overpaid Clutterbuck?

Hartnell has had a 60 pt season, and he just put up 17 pts in this year's playoff. All this while putting up 100+ PIMs/season.

I love Clutterbuck, but Hartnell is a much better player. It's not really fair to compare the two.

Oh, I like those abilities in players. I don't like Scott Hartnell though. I've watched a lot of Flyer games and one ended in a biting incident, another game where he threw his glove when a player had a breakaway, etc... Just this year, he had an overall piss poor playoff performance (that's a mouthful) up until the Stanley Cup finals...but really, a lot of it for the Wild comes down to adding salary. 4.2 for three more years doesn't really help us out.

Overpaid for what he puts up in comparison to Clutterbuck. I don't think he's worth $4.25 million over the next three years as he's put up an average of 46 points. That's basically what we're paying Bouchard and when healthy he still put up more points (and had a higher high-water mark season with 63 points). Clutterbuck on the other hand is getting 1/3 of that over the next three years for half the point production and PIMs. He's easily a more cost-effective player.

I don't think I would want Hartnell's contract to come back. If he was paid maybe a million less that would be wonderful.

Interesting proposal for sure. But like other posters say, cap space could be an issue...

I don't understand why Philly fans don't think Backstrom for Carter straight is equitable.

If you need more, how about Sheppard thrown in?

Is this proposal from a Wild fan, or a Philly fan?

I would do that deal if I were a Wild fan. But I just don't see Philly being ok with it.

I would jump at that in a heartbeat... unfortunately you'd still have to convince Backstrom to waive his NTC.

"Nik would you like to go play for the Stanley Cup Runner-Up and have a blueline in front of you that consists of Pronger, Timonen, Coburn, Carle, and most likely Hamhuis?"

"No thanks Chuck. I would like to waste my NHL goalie prime years on the middling, stuck-in-the-mud Wild".

The problem is, Nik gets too comfortable far too easily. I think he'd say no just to keep his current stability. He's too much of a routine guy. Always likes to do the exact same thing the exact same way each and every game day.
