.974 save percentage, I think I read earlier.

Pretty solid.

So far.

Nothing impresses the ladiez more than obscure hockey knowledge. Regale any ladies of the female persuasion with tales of heroism, daring and high adventure. Tell her about that time your favorite team, the Maple Leafs, won the Hockey Victory Championship by defeating an armada of kitten-slaying killbots on the edge of an active volcano. Lavishly expound upon the lass your unparalleled grasp of Kris Letang's substandard CORSI numbers. And then close in for the kill with that wild story about that one time the Devils sent more than one forward into the offensive zone, even though they didn't really have to.

Been way too long since I'd linked to one of these columns.

As expected the Stars feed is on Center Ice on Dish. Though Dish has the agreement with something via the NHL and I think inDemand.

I'm not sure if the Stars feeds will be unblocked for the people in Texas for the Stars games or not while the FSSW/Dish ordeal is going on. It should be IMO, since the channel isn't there.

I feel a new tradition needs to be established. I think there should be an updated version of the poem Chad did a couple years ago before each first game of the year. Who is up to the challenge of updating it?

'Tis Day One of our season, first game for the Stars,
"The waiting is over, this season is ours!"
A reason to be optimistic? Maybe,
This squadron from Texas may surprise even me.

A date with the Devils to start the year off,
"It's over, we're finished", a few of you may scoff.
And sure, you may think we'll fall flat on our back,
Against Kovalchuk, Parise, Elias and Zajac.

But not me; I think this new Stars team will win!
We'll send their fans home sad, much to Lou's chagrin.
With Kari in goal, and an uptempo game,
Our boys from Dallas will put theirs to shame.

A crazy new look in this roster of ours,
Modano sent packing; I'm sure Joe sent flowers.
Turco's no more, to the Blackhawks he went,
And Jere's in limbo; more time may be lent.

The aforementioned Kari now guards the twine,
One hopes that he nurtures his oft-injured spine.
And if he's to falter, and requires time off,
We'll hope for the best from the one called Raycroft.

The Dallas blueline last year was abysmal.
Joe kept it the same; my outlook seems dismal.
While pucks are sent flying off Lehtonen's blocker,
I hope we see lots of Severin Blindenbacher.

On the offensive front, to other teams' sorrow,
Our captain remains the hard-hitting Brenden Morrow.
And James Neal returns, not a moment too soon.
I wonder how much he'll like playing in June.

Brad Richards will look to prove he's for real,
Same for Brunnstrom, who's looking like less of a steal.
Our 2 and 3 centers will be Ribeiro and Benn,
And that beast on RW will be Loui Eriksson.

And Krys Barch is back! Yay! Aren't we all thrilled?
Unbeknownst to us all, he's developed some skills,
Or at least that's the rumour, why else would Joe think
To bring him back home when he truly does stink?

So buckle your seatbelts, as hockey is back!
The beer will be flowing, the bars all jam-packed,
An army of Stars fans, all in a row,
Shouting in unison, "GO STARS GO!!!"

looking at this game I think the deciding factor will be the Devil's advantage when it comes to the defensive contributions of their forwards. Dallas is going to have to work their ***** off for any sustained pressure on the Devils because NJ plays some of the best system defence in the league. I just don't see the Devils having the same problem with Dallas as a 5 man unit in the Stars' end.

this game isn't out of reach, but I'm not going to be devastated if the Stars lose. I just want to see that tough physical play that I heard about in preseason. Dallas has to start creating an identity for themselves now if they are going to take that next step forward during this next season.

OK so I looked them up now. Wow ..... completely forgot about Volchenkov and Tallinder signing in the summer. Really would like to hear from Devils fans how Urbom made team over Corrente.
Urbom was beastly in the preseason...for a 19 year old. Plus, Corrente gets paid more

Corrente lost out to the numbers game. Once the Devils do their long term moves Matty ice will likely be back.

Urbom has been extremely impressive and will probably stick all season.

Finally it's here!!!!! Game day baby!!!
I've noticed a lot are saying were going to lose but I have a strong feeling tonight were going to win it tonight!
Stars - 4
Devils - 2

P.S. won't have to worry about finding the game on the net since I got NHL center ice free preview on HD until the 24th!!!

Modo, if I could give out reputation points I would send them your way. That was very well done.

Good team or bad we seem to play terrible against NJ especially there. I'll hope for the best tonight but have no expectations of acquiring points. I can only hope to god this is the last season we are forced to play two games against them again. I hate that club.

yeah the bad thing is if Dallas losses tonight it pretty much makes tomorrow's game must win, because then it's like 5 days before they play again. By that time they could be like 4 or 5 points out of the playoffs before they play their 3rd game lol

that's no way to start a season

Add to the fact the third game is against the Wings, that has 1st star night from Modano written all over it.

I wouldn't be too downhearted if we came away with 3 points out of the first 3, 4 I'd be delighted with, 6 would just be wow.

I'll go hog wild and predict that if Dallas takes tonight's game, they'll take the Islanders tomorrow and the wings in the home opener.

Am I crazy for (kind of) predicting 3 wins in a row for Dallas? perhaps. Only time will tell

I don't think they won 3 games in a row all of last year, right?
