Optimistic? Pessimistic?

I side with the latter - I can't shake this feeling that we're all going to be smacked with bitter disappointment by the end of next week. How are you feeling going into the next few days? If Burkie does nothing and only picks at 62 (and the other 5 picks) at the draft - how big of a failure would that be prior to JULY 1st?

It wouldn't be disappointing at all for me. There's no reason for Burkie to make a move unless he feels there's a good move to be made. I don't want him to break the bank just to do something before draft day.

I'll be disappointed if Burke fails to land at least one legit 1st liner via trade or free agency.

Hes done all three before.

-Stand still and accomplish nothing with all the hype of potential players(Anaheim at trade deadline. E.g. Sundin for Ryan, etc)

-Make a silly looking trade(Kubina, Kessel, etc)

-Pull off something big( Phaneuf, Sedins, etc)

Those picks won't play for us in years. Here to hearing about trades this week and a show stoping July 1/2 playoffs are a must next season and I AM optimistic!

Burke will do something for sure. He is in no position not too. I am hoping for Kovalchuk.

I consider myself a realist which falls somewhere in the middle of your scale here.

I do not expect much at the draft, because Leafs are in a WIN NOW situation or a Burke says "I need players that can play RIGHT NOW!!", with CEO adding " We expect to make the playoffs".

What that tells me is that later round picks and almost all draft picks for that matter which are longer term investments, that simply can't help right now. Therefore I don't see Burke being a big player and in fact he has stated on numerous occasions that "July 1st is our entry draft".

The only potential realist situation is if Burke receives a pick from the Kaberle trade that is higher than our own 3rd rounder along with another younger forward that can help next season.

How about realistic? I mean Burke is not going to get all these massive trades done, so no point in getting over excited. However I do believe Burke will create a locker room change and bring in some "key" guy to help the organization, so no need to be negative. I am hoping Burke does something massive and shocks the hockey world....Crosby

I'm hoping for a good return, but not expecting a spectacular one. There's been a lot of hype for the upcoming 2 weeks so it's going to be topsy-turvy here (as if it isn't already). It would be great to get a early 2nd or mid to late 1st but I'd rather see a good forward come in and a good prospect at the very least. I admit to not being the biggest of Leaf fans, at least in comparison to many here, but I will only truly be disappointed if Kaberle is returned for a terrible package (one with lots of truculence but no skill, or out of desperation) or if Burke stands pat and only signs a couple of bottom 6ers. I doubt either would happen.

I'd be excited if we could attain Matthew Lombardi through free agency, David Clarkson/Colby Armstrong, and Patrick Sharp (though I'm not sure how), and a decent prospect somewhere, or something along those lines. Still leaves holes and we still wouldn't have the greatest of offense, but there could be some opportunities throughout the year next year that another forward could be acquired in the same way Phaneuf was.

I am not sure what will leave me in the "what a bore"/neutral frame of mind, but I think that we will see some unexpected trades with good return.

on edit (darn, I oughta read more carefully)- prior to July 1st, well I'd like to see a good young forward and a a prospect, but it's kind of hard to look at it only the draft as indication of a bad off season. I will consider the moves at draft and free agency in combination.

great avatar and screen name

anyway i think its very possible nothing happens before july 1 but id prefer that to a bad move obviously

as a leaf fan its best to be crazily optimistic i find as it justifies continually following the team in the face of perpetual disappointment

heres maybe my favourite del griffith moment by the way

Im unfortalantly expecting the usual...Nothing at all. I always get so pumped for Trade Dead line day, the Draft for trades, and July 1st and nothing ever happens. They never trade for good players....(Not talking Kessel or Phanuef)....They never sign the big scorers I want them too....last year Gaborik this year Kovalchuk. They never do much at all. Last July 1st we signed 2 defensemen and 1 fighter on July 1st (Well Beauchemin was signed on like the 5th or something and Gustavson after) But I was so used to the JFJ era signing Blake and thats it. Now it is Burke and nothing is ever expected. Just please sign or trade for a scorer this summer (prefurably the Draft or July 1st so im not waiting around all summer for a trade) Thats all I want Brain

Of course it would indicate a failure on their part of move up. Nonis has suggested they'll be picking higher than 62.

But there should be no more expectations that the Burke-Nonis team can move up anymore than they did last year.

Definitely optimistic. Honestly, at the point we're at now, there's nowhere to go but up. If Kaberle doesn't get traded, I won't be upset. The bare minimum I'm hoping for is to at least get a second round pick and add a player or two through trades who can contribute long-term to this team. I haven't deluded myself into the idea that Burke has to blow us out of the water on the 24th. If he does, that's great; but for me, success would be a couple of moves that leave us in better standing than going into the draft.

All I want for us to sign Kovy, that will be a mission successful for Burke tbh even if he doesn't trade Kabs. Marleau and Kovy should be at the top of his list, especially Kovy.

I hope we'll see something at the draft. I don't care if we get any picks back or not but I want to see some movement (Kaberle).

I'm pretty optimistic that Kaberle will be dealt. Pessimistic (I guess) on the return. I'm hoping he can land a 1st round pick, but something tells me it won't happen without having to sacrifice the quality of player potentially coming back in the deal and I don't think that's something Burke wants to do.

After Kaberle, I can't see too much happening, but you never know. If there's one thing about Burke is that he seems to be able to create some excitement (one way or another) when you least expect it.

I'm feeling pretty bi-polar right now. I started the offseason feeling like anything could happen, and anything could still happen, I just don't want to be let down again. I thought the Leafs were going to do a lot better last year, and they let me down straight away.

I'm going to wait and see what Burke does, but I (won't pray cause I don't believe it would do any good) hope something big happens. Hopefully involving acquiring some more legit top line talent.

We have no major picks to look forward to, so it's all down to trades and free agency. Leaf fans deserve for things to improve, dramatically.

I really, really hope Burke's impatience hasn't gotten t the best of him, and that we have to suffer for it. If you think about it, it's been 5 **** seasons in a row, with very little to show for it.

as long as our team improves... i dont care how or what he does.... the goal is winning, plain and simple. no?

make a plan, follow it...

OP: i'm not optimistic or pessimistic, this year i'm feeling curious... lots of hype.

Well somewhat pessimistic since you just never know what might happen. I expect Kaberle to go, but not sure at all what the return will end up being. Guess we'll find out though.
