Can the NYR afford the 1st overall pick???

Heres the way I look at it:

they need youth badly. Someone to play with Jagr, definitely.

With 5 of the first 36 picks, why not try this to Washington:

Blackburn, Balej, 6th overall and 25th overall for 1st overall.

Balej is a good player (saw him this year in Hamilton of the AHL). Blackburn would be a solid #2 goalie in Washington, and can learn from Kolzig (if he comes back). The two firsts would help out Washington by grabbing two young prospects, and NYR will get Ovetchkin? Is this at all possible?? Tell me what you think. If this doesnt work, would you be willing to trade someone else with picks for #1 overall.

No. Can't afford to deal away that many young assets for one player. End of story.

They have Oullet who's just as good as Blackburn, and injury free

The Rangers have nothing that the Caps would want.

If you want someone to play with Jagr, play Balej with him. Don't give away this many assets for a single one - the 6th and 26th picks have a lot of value, and you don't want to throw them away to get Washington's pick. Agreed, Ovechkin is the best player involved in the deal, but Washington is going to make anyone who wants the pick overpay horribly.

Question - you do realize that Lindros had a lot more hype than Ovechkin does, right?

I doubt Washington would not want any other picks outside #6 if they were to trade with NYR. They are in the same boat as NYR is with all the picks they have. I think it would take a lindros type deal(not more though) to get washington to trade.

I don't want him. I'm just saying that other teams will not pay the price the Capitals are likely to ask.

No one is going to offer what the Caps would need to trade the 1st overall pick. it would take a Lindros type deal and that is just not worth it.

Yeah, they could afford it. Why they would want it is beyond me (Balej is tearing up the AHL right now.) Ladd is gonna be a helluva a player if they can get their hands on him.

For the Rangers, they should play all their young guys (As a pens fan, i'll tell you losing is not as painful when it's young, talented guys losing), and make a strong pitch for crosby next summer. A full year of watching Tyutin, Balej, Lundmark, etc could be good.

As a Ranger fan I would keep what we have. Ovechvkin is amazing, but Balej has the offensive skills to score and we should get a good player at 6. This is the start of the Rangers rebuild............they aren't ready to give up these unproven players yet for just one superstar............enough of that here............Renney says there is a plan, lets hope he is right.

The way you settle this is look at the Lindros deal. Who go the better deal? The Flyers with lindros or the nordiques/avs? And there you will see that one great player is not as good as 3-4 decent players.

Will have to overpay too badly for Ovechkin. Stick with what they have, I think that has a good chance of turning out better in the long run.

He means a similar package to what Philly gave the Nordiques, which is even funnier if you ask me.

For NY to get Ovechkin, i'd want no less than Tyutin, Kondratiev, Immonen, Balej and the #6. Its quite a package, but I really think Ovechkin is gonna be a very powerful player.

Sacrifice the team for the player? No way.
I'd rather have a future team than a future superstar - which will win more games?
