I would be happy with adding Ladd. He has 2 cup rings now so he knows what it takes to get there. Kesler would have to go for dinner with him to make amends though.

That line would have chemistry

Ladd would be a god send for this team. I've always been a big fan of his and his balls out style. He'd be great playing with Hodgson or Kesler. Hard to imagine Chicago would give him up since he's the type of guy you go to war with.

I'm sure Kesler and Ladd could get along since they're professionals and as far as I know it's all been on the ice.

This kind of came out of nowhere. I'd definitely like Ladd on the team though.

I'm not a huge fan of Ladd but if him and Kesler can make amends and skip to his signing press conference like Kes and Willie did. Then and ONLY then will I be happy with this signing.

Count me as a fan of this idea. Big physical player who can play in the bottom six as well as spot duty in the top six, 2 Stanley Cup rings and only 24 years old. Yes, yes, and yes please.

When do RFAs have to be qualified by? Is it July 1st for them as well? If the Hawks are thinking they might not be able to qualify him, you'd think perhaps the Canucks could acquire his rights on the cheap and then extend him a QO, rather than waiting for Ladd to be a UFA.

Ladd backs up his **** talking with actual toughness. I think he would be a huge addition. His ability to elbow opposition players in the face away from the puck will create space for guys like Hodgson and Grabner.

Via Bob McKenzie:

Quote:
Hawks cap situation is believed to be so tight that they can't make qualifying offer to Andrew Ladd and therefore are shopping him hard.
You have to think no one's trying to do them any favours with the return. Hope the Canucks can get in on this.

EDIT: Two more tweets, McKenzie broke the Canucks interest story:

Quote:
Vancouver is one of the teams said be most interested, which of course is funny. Ladd is a B.C. boy but had a running battle with Kesler etc
Quote:
NOT saying it's a foregone conclusion Ladd ends up in VanCity, but it's possible. He will be on the move tho.
I think the Kesler/Ladd debacle would be a non issue. I remember stories about guys becoming teammates with the likes of Ulf Samuelsson and Jarkko Ruutu--players they absolutely despised, and then they raved about what great teammates they are. Better to be with them then against them.

disagree i think he contributes, with strong defensive play, strong forecheck and creating space for his linemates.

I don't think hes a coward. Hes actually one of the hawks players i don't hate.

38 points; 37 at even strength, and 47 at even strength last year. That attitude that we saw punching SOBs stitches is what this team is missing in a big way, especially in the playoffs.

Pretty much, and at least you know ladd is willing to drop them.

I despise the ones like byfugliens and versteeg those that really try to hurt other players but don't back it up.

Ladd was making $1.55m last season. If we acquire him as an RFA and extend him a QO, that means his salary goes up by at least 10%, yes? And then of course they can negotiate from there.

Isn't it a good thing when your players are hard to play against?

Ladd's puckskills aren't anything to write home about but he's skilled enough to play with good players and has made a living doing the dirty work on his line. The Canucks have more than enough skill on the team and in the pipeline that bringing in a player or 2 to do the heavy lifting seems like a really good fit, both now and in the longterm.

I wonder if the Canucks take Sopel back as well they could get Ladd for nothing? As much as I'd rather see Sopel play anywhere but Vancouver maybe he could help our PK in a #6 role?

I'd love Ladd on the team. He's a quality player who can play tough minutes and put up points without PP time. He's probably the best option available to anchor a third line.

I would love Ladd on this team. If we can get his RFA rights for say Jannik Hansen or Hordie or Rypien (or any of our other 3-4th line prospects) i'd be all over it. They probably want a pick though.

As long as it's not Hansen for Ladd and Huet.

I'd love to have Ladd on the Canucks, local kid who plays an agitated game of hockey and puts up some points on the side, if he and Kesler can become friends I think this can turn out to be a very immaculate addition, even if we took Sopel with him.

With our contracted players at the moment, the roster looks something like this:

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
(BLANK) - Kesler - Samuelsson
Grabner - Hodgson - Bernier
Hansen - Rypien - Hordichuk

Raymond still to be signed. I think it'd be easy enough for Ladd to bump Bernier down to the 4th line to star. Grabner-Hodgson-Ladd would be a decent line(provided Hodgson is successful and we don't need to acquire a new 3rd line C). And if Grabner struggles for whatever reason, that could become Ladd-Hodgson/3rd Line C-Bernier.

I predict that it will be for either Hansen or 2011 draft picks.

Somehow this can end up with Ladd and Armstrong on our team, right?

I know it won't, but I like to dream of a 3rd line that just pisses other teams off to no end. And they might actual hit. Crazy.

I wonder how many other teams are in on this, and how much it would take to get Ladd. It can't be much. Can we trade for Patrick White than flip him for Ladd?
