If they give him a one-way contract, I expect him to fill a spot amonh the 23 roster spots.

Like I said, you use a guy like Bergeron (versatile PP specialist), or an enforcer as your 13th forward. Not a guy like Darche, who brings nothing of value.

We need a balance. But what we lack now is some physical forwards. Not guys like Darche.
I think it was a favor signing for a 33 yr old journey man ... it's also a message for hard work and effort.

When he gets thrown into the line-up he brings 100% effort , he'll play a few good games, sizzle out and will ride the press box until his next shot....

You don't want a rookie or young player scratched more often than not, but Darche is approaching the end of his career so it's a non-issue.

Lapierre is a 2nd line center and Darche a wonderful depth player.
Happy now?

Because I like the Habs, doesn't mean I have to like each and every player like if they were awesome. Lapierre is a 4th liner, and Darche is a non-physical, not particularly skilled player, who will although likely be a part of our lineup. This is all truth.

In the cap world you need these kinds of players that can come in at 550k and not embarass you.

Personally i will be dissapointed if Darche is one of our top 12 healthy forwards, but if he splits the season in the AHL and plays 30 games with us as a 12th forward that's not the worst thing in the world.

Fail. Goodbye Ryan White. Thanks for signing washed old dudes like the Habs always do instead of bringing young players ... oh wait, when the young ones get called up, the Habs set them to fail by playing them on the same line with those fossil.

I guess MAB is the next one to be signed, goodbye Ryan O'Bryne.

I hope to god they see White in the lineup next season. He did every possible thing to prove he's NHL ready. He has grit and has nice anticipation.

Thanks for getting the point. I'm not pissed off, I'm disappointed. I genuinely thought the organization would want to fill the voids instead of bringing back guys like Darche.

Yeah we should let White stay in the pressbox all year instead of playing in the AHL...

As long as Darche barely plays I don't mind this signing for a 13th/14th forward but what I do hate is Martin's love for him and how we'll probably see Martin overuse him in the lineup even though he's not an NHL caliber player.

I feel the same way. I'm starting to wonder if the one-way contract is sort of a deterrent from other teams picking him up off waivers. We can afford to eat his salary if he doesn't make the team or spends half the year in Hamilton, and he's a versatile guy to have as your 13th forward. When you think of it that way, the guy actually has a little value, and management might have seen it as beneficial to give him a one-way deal to ensure he remains in the organization, whether in Montreal or Hamilton. Teams likely won't want to touch him on waivers if there's a chance they'll have to pay him NHL money if they end up sending him to the minors.

This is exactly what my point is.
I said one month ago that I didn't want to ever see Darche being put in a journeyman top-sixer role for the Habs ever, ever again. Apparently, these days are not over just yet.

Perfect, great signing. Part one of my plan is done. I had him penciled in as a 4th line depth winger.

Why can't white play on our 4th line again? Even with Darche signed... it's not like white isn't aloud to play in the NHL. This makes no sense lol.

Pyatt Moore (hopefully) Lapierre
Moen ______ _________

Darche

There are still two spots available so I don't see the problem. This is assuming Moore and Pleks are both resigned.

Anyone who didn't like how Darche played last year is blind or just a hater. He was excellent down the stretch for us, scoring clutch goals even and working his tail off. Ryan White will be one of the first call-ups out of Hamilton, so effing relax. Thank god there are some level heads in the Habs management. Great cheap signing.

I guess this is ok. Would have liked to see it happen after we spent our dollars elsewhere first though.

What I would prefer as a lineup would be

Pouliot Gomez Gio
Cammy Pleks Akost
Pyatt Eller Armstrong
Moen Moore/maxwell White

I highly doubt we can sign Moore with Eller now in our system, but this is my wish list. Notice Darche no where in the starting lineup.

Gauthier I guess made up his mind that instead of getting a superstar we'll save $8.5million and put any old local boy who's good enough to play in a garage league on the first line.

I don't mind this. It's probably at the minimum. He's a cheap guy to plug in on the fourth line with a bit of size and a good work ethic.

The first free agent resigned in two years, and it's Darche.

Not a bad thing, he's a very good veteran with the young players and he works all the time, except when he's not given any ice time of course

Rawwr! That makes us contenders

Good move. Better to have a guy like him as the pressbox/5 minute guy rather than having a young guy sitting.
