The earthquake was centred in Buckingham PQ (closest major city...Ottawa), and you linked to a thread in the Ottawa forum. What the hell does that have to do with Toronto?

You do know that Toronto =/= Canada...right? Not to mention the number of Americans reacting the same way. Earthquakes arent something we deal with up here....at all. Unlike your cities, ours arent built for this kind of thing....at all. a 5.0 might be nothing there, but here it is a big deal. We are crazy up here though. We also react badly to things like murders, but those are just old hat for you cool Californians. Im kinda glad these things are a big deal instead of "old hat".

Well, Cananda doesn't need to be defended either.

I hope that Jack Layton's press conference wasn't to announce his new career in comedy.

After 911, most people in Ottawa react to anything unusual the same way the people in New York react to low flying planes. Many government offices are evacuated on a bi-weekly basis nowadays. Being a first-strike target isn't exactly fun.

Actually, now that I think of it, that policy started back in the early 90s (or was it late 80s?) when that nutcase hijacked a tourist bus and parked in on the front lawn of the parliment buildings. Scary stuff, especially when you get a call from your dad saying he's in lockdown on the hill because of it.
