Overall, it looks like Price had a great rookie year, followed by a sharp dive, and he's slowly recovering, maybe. It was silly to trade Halak, who is now on a big up-trend.
Luongo since his injury hasn't been top-notch and unless he has a huge rebound, he's no longer a franchise goaltender. His slumping numbers also coincide with Vancouver become a more offensive-oriented and entertaining team. When he was indeed the number one goaltender in the NHL, Vancouver was a trap-happy bore-fest of a team.
Vancouver spends 15 years (and arguably, their entire franchise history) without a top flight goalie... they get one, and then this?
A hundred question marks aren't enough.
I'd argue that Kirk McLean was a top flight goalie. His Vezina nominations in 89 and 92 as well as his Conn Smythe-worth performance in 94 (had the Canucks won) don't lie.
Of course, that doesn't really undermine your point. I don't want to go back to the dark ages of Canuck goaltending.
He has a career .919 sv% and 2.46 GAA in the playoffs.
Yeah, what a huge choker.
Bad trolls are bad.
Oh, and he has a 17-2-3 record in international tournaments. It sure looks like he's unable to handle pressure.
You see this is what's wrong in the Luongo discussions. People aren't debating if Luongo sucks, they're just making the case that he's nowhere near top 5 in the NHL. That is not a diss, he's still top 10. Vancouver fans get all uppity if he's not listed as top 3, top 5 etc. Get over it, his play hasn't been good enough in the past seasons. I've watched him since he was in Florida, he was one of my favorite players, but I'm not going to say he's top 3, because that's absurd.
I was listening to the Team 1040 today and they were discussing the possibility/plausibility of trading Luongo to the Habs in exchange for Carey Price. The theory is that both goalies get a fresh start in their respective hometowns.
(Mods: This is only a theory based loosely on the musings of Cam Cole, so I wasn't sure what prefix to put up).
Discuss.
ok ok and, what? Gillis calls Bettman to ask him to give Gauthier extra cap room, please?
or Vanc takes Hamrlik and Spacek?

You really expect Halak to play better than his playoff performance? Even equaling it will be a feat.
As a Canucks fan, no. Luongo is what Price will HOPE to be. So we take a step backwards.
This is your rationale for every trade offer you don't like, and it's poor rationale, quite frankly.
Obviously if Vancouver were to entertain this possibility it would be directly because of the potential you're referring to in Price. Their obvious gain in the situation is the difference in cost of the player. They take a risk on Price turning out like Luongo, and are rewarded for that risk by paying him $3 million less per season.

I doubt that Price will come at $3mill less a season... maybe $2mill.
His last contract was at $2.2mill after his rookie bonuses, and more often than not RFAs coming off such contracts get more than their previous deals. And now with Halak gone, the Habs have very little leverage to keep Price's contract down. He will get overpaid for potential just like the majority of young players do, and that, IMO, is now a given with Halak moved.
Luongo's cap hit is $5.3mill... that ranks him near the middle of the pack among starting goalies in the NHL. The Canucks don't need cap relief either. And they are also not a rebuilding team that will give more value to potential than current level of play... and therefore it makes absolutely zero sense for them to take on any risk at all.
Again, this makes ZERO sense for the Canucks on every level.
luongo had an off year and everybody starts to hate when they know they'd get a huge huge stiffy if luongo was traded to their team
haters gonna hate
It's nothing new to Van, remember all the talk just a year ago Sedins are 2nd liners, kesler nothing more than a 3rd liner. Good thing non Canuck fans were right... ohh wait they were all wrong.
