Versteeg to the canucks for 25th pick + Prospect

http://twitter.com/************* - I'm told the Hawks are mulling over a Canucks offer which is the 25th pick and a prospect for Versteeg

This makes no sense to me unless raymond is on the way out?

I wonder if he farmed that rumor from this board... Some posters on here were just talking about that as a possible deal.

I can only see this happen is Samuelsson, Raymond, or Bernier is leaving.

Why the blue meanie would we give up assets for a forward and not a defenseman?

That's what I was thinking.

And please, God, no. Our top-six is fine, we do not need Versteeg. We are just getting to the point where we are rebuilding our prospect cupboard and depth. Trading our 1st AND a prospect is not going to help that process.

I hope not. We don't need Versteeg since we have Raymond.

I changed it to speculation. As far as I'm aware, ************* isn't an overly legitimate source.

Wait what?

Since when do we need a top 6 forward unless we are shipping out Raymond?

Versteeg makes what, 3.35M a year for the next 2 and is undersized? Is that what we really need to add to our top 6?

We need a D-man, not another skill forward unless Gillis' logic is that he's trying to whittle away Chicago's cup team, which doesn't make sense.

I don't like this rumour unless we get Hjalmarson's rights, in which case I do that deal. Late firsts aren't that amazing (yes there have been some good players taken with them obviously), but they are often 3-4 years away whereas we could acquire a young more proven NHL d-man potentially with it and we need some good players for what is pretty much a 3-4 year push that coincides with Sedin + Kesler + Luongo contracts.

I thought this guy's batting average was worse than Eklund's?

This rumor is BS. The Nucks are not looking to upgrade their top 6

I'd do this trade, and flip Raymond to Florida for Ballard. Trade Bieksa, re-sign Mitchell, and grab another UFA defenseman (Paul Martin would be a Godsend). Depending on the prospect of course; no Hodgson, Schroeder or Schneider obviously.

Can't be true because it makes no sense at all. At 3 million dollars, Gillis could definitely find someone on the UFA market close to Versteeg without having to give up assets.

I call BS.

Versteeg has a nice shot and can stick handle but he isn't the player the Canucks need. He's soft, small, gets easily knocked off the puck and isn't good defensively.

I like Versteeg, funny guy.

For the team's sake, not interested.

Thats the only reason we'd trade for Versteeg is it we moved Raymond's rights for a D-man.

isn't he an extremely good player in the defensive zone? maybe I'm wrong but I thought he was rumoured to be a nomini for the selke.

I don't know how good he is on the PK, and if we're going to pay someone 3+ for the next few years, they need to be able to do that.

He gets knocked off the puck easily and he gives it away as well from what I have seen. I might be wrong though.

So 44 points and less than a minute of PK time on arguably the most talented team in the cap era is worth a 1st and a prospect? Yeah go **** yourself eklund.

This is not eklund! BUT that doesn't make him any more reliable. In fact, he might quite possibly be even less reliable.

Still this rumor is so bad I feel it's only proper to blame Eklund.
