There was always a feeling Scott might join his brother. I was trying to find the article, but last week Hamhuis commented on Vancouver. They let Mitchell go and O'Brien is a UFA, so they need another guy besides Ballard.

Are you people serious? Everyone is scared/complaining about the cap situation if the Kings land Kovalchuk, now you're going to praise the acquisition if they sign Hamhuis?

Keep in mind that it's another big salary, I guess its Bye Bye JMFJ and Simmer..

Panic much? I'm sure Dean has numbers in mind that would make it fit (if he even wants both, the interest could be an either/or). Dean just needs to be carefull with giving MNCs.

Maybe fellow Russian Volchenkov would take a discount to play here with Kovalchuk? lol

They sent O'Brien a qualifying offer.

I see what you're saying but it seems way too risky to tack on both salaries especially when you need to hand out extensions to the young guys.

I could handle Kovy signing but BOTH Kovy and Hamhuis? That seems way too risky.. Especially when you're looking at locking up JMFJ and Simmer to long term deals as well as dealing with Schenn's contract in the future.

First of all I don't see this happening but I'm happy DL is looking at getting Kovalchuck and a Top 4. I personally am OK going into the season with Hickey, Muzzin etc,.

I am not scared about our CAP situation. DL knows what he is doing.

Doughty, Johnson, Simmonds, and Bernier will be locked up regardless of what we do tomorrow.

That's why I can't see both happening. A trade has to happen for both spots to be filled.

You never know, maybe Dean is not confident that he can sign JJ past this next season and Hamhuis is an insurance policy. As long as he doesn't give Hamhuis a NMC, he still has the option to move Hamhuis if JJ re-signs with LA.

All speculation...but what else is there to do?

Pierre LeBrun and Bob McKenzie are two of the most trusted, and respected "inside" reporters. When these guy's say or post something, 99.9% it's true.

DL may know what he's doing but that doesn't necessitate the idea that we're keeping Johnson or Simmonds..

He might know that he's gambling by signing Kovy at the risk of losing Johnson or Simmonds.

Don't get me wrong, I want us to get Kovy. I just don't think we can be certain that we're going to get our young guys locked up if we pick up Kovy.

Again, picking up Kovy obviously hurts our CAP situation, the guy is going to make a lot of money and nobody can argue that. But it will not tie down DL to the point where he can't re-sign the guys he really wants to re-sign.

If he wants to chase down a top 4 d-man and lock him up for a few more years then obviously it will make it a lot more difficult meaning he will need to free up space via trade next season.

DL will eventually lose players due to the CAP but it won't be a Chicago situation and it won't be players like Simmonds, Doughty, and Johnson.

No reason DL couldn't trade Hamhuis (or the like) after two years for picks or prospects to make room for younger contracts. Or maybe Hamhuis plays so well that we trade a different asset....

Just a question for everyone. Why is everybody over looking Kurtis Foster? The guy had 42 points and was only a -5, averaging 17+ mins a game on a bad Tampa team last year. Add to the fact that he's only 28, I think he fits in well in the Kings top 6.

Similar to Corvo, he's considered a PP specialist with a booming shot. Doesn't provide the all around play of a Hamhuis. More than half of his points came on the PP.

Any UFA worth his salt is going to insist on some type of NTC/NMC.

Doesn't mean that they will get it. How many of the UFAs got one last year?

If someone like Hamhuis doesn't get an NMC or NTC, he'll simply sign elsewhere.

Therefore, it's almost guaranteed that he'll get it.

Grebs is a UFA. Always liked his offense, could be had on the cheap.
