you are looking at the leagues best pp units in along time.

Then you throw Bernier/Quick in net.

Schenn, Simmonds, Scuderi, and Greene in for depth. LA would be my pick to win the presidents trophy. That is an absolutely insane amount of depth!
Pittsburgh has had the option of throwing out:

Crosby Malkin Staal
Gonchar Goligoski

Yet for whatever reason they don't have great PP success.

Now Eklund is mentioning Quick might be moved, I assume for a legit scorer.

Mike Yeo. Thankfully he left for the AHL.

Bingo. Too many E5's have been shot down for Eklund to be a "legit source", especially in todays world where all the top guys are on twitter anyway....I mean he broke the ATL/CHI trade 5-10 minutes before Lebrun confirmed it?

Difference between Eklund and someone credible is that Eklund, being anonymous(yeah, right), can stick his neck out when he hears anything with no retribution. The press needs confirmation.

how much is a 3rd or 4th really worth. SQUAT! Again if Lou wanted him and he wanted Kovie to know that, w/o talking to him, I don't see him trading his rights if LA made an offer.
Now the same way people thought a Kovie signing mite anger Parise, isn't the same true for Doughty. That's a lot of money to lock up.
Although it really does suck if we had the high bid and we lost anyway cause of location.

how about a 2nd this year and then a conditional next year if he signs, could be the asset that keeps on giving.

Rangers and Devils don't make great trading partners. No GM is just giving away a pick and Sather really doesnt have to anyway. He can just wait, knowing Grossman has him on the speed dial.

right?

This does not make any sense at all. If you know a guy is headed to FA, why on Earth would you not take a valuable pick for a guy on his way out? It's a FREE commodity!!

If his rights aren't traded, it's because a team didn't want to pay the asking price.

It did, though there never was an official trade. The Kings got permission to talk to Hossa at the draft and if a deal would have been worked out, the Kings would trade a 3rd for him.

Here are the quotes, straight from the mouth of Dean Lombardi:

I think your forgot how much cap room we have, and how much money that is coming off the books next year. The money is there for Doughty, hopefully he side at a discount... which will help greatly

The Kings powerplay unit would be

Zeus-Smyth
Kovy-Doughty-Kopitar

If they can be a good powerplay unit with Jarret Freakin Stoll as the main shooter, then replacing him with Kovalchuk, and running the plans through him instead will surely instantly make the powerplay a huge success

I don't see it happening. Doesn't seem like the Lombardi thing to do.

Lombardi did it with Hossa last year as well.

LOMBARDI: "Obviously we went into this for wingers. Like I've said, it's one of the positives of being in our situation now, as opposed to three years ago, when we were looking for everything and signing seven guys. The No. 1 guy we targeted was Hossa. I got permission to talk to Hossa at the draft. There were three teams, us and two others. Detroit gave me permission, and we started the dialogue at that time. Detroit, if he got signed, they would get compensation."

The guy below you is correct, it's precisely the kind of move Lombardi would do.

I'd do it if I were Lou. Let Kovy walk, get a pick/prospect to cover up the one's we lost in the past two trades and focus on resigning Martin and go hard after Michalek.

As weird as this might sound, we would be a better team with Martin + Michalek instead of IK.

Wow if the kings manage to sign Kovalchuk they will be a dream team. Doughty , Kopitar, Brown, Johnson, Quick and now maybe Kovalchuk thats insane.
