1. Koivu is not going anywhere.
2. You replaced Burns with 1st? (Burns = 9th OV?)
3. That means we will still be looking for a #2 center
4. We move down from 9 to 14
5. Spezza is 7mil cap hit. Koivu is 3.25. His raise next season will also probably be less than 7mil
6. Spezza is good for around 70-80 pts with decent linemates. Koivu is good for 60-70 with crappy linemates
7. Koivu is not going anywhere

So no. So many things wrong with this deal. I'm not even sure I would do Spezza for Koivu, straight up. Hell, not even sure I would do Koivu for Spezza + 1st...

the rage in minnesota would be great and terrible. We lose cap space, don't address a need, and give up two of our three best assets at the moment. (Koivu, Burns, top 10 pick).

nevermind the fact that Koivu is who fans identify most with on the team...Really, a Koivu-less Wild right now would feel like an expansion team, new to the area. Only we'd know that this time it wasn't and would be less than thrilled with the situation.

How about Cheechoo + Lee for Bouchard. We take on Cheechoo's bad contract but we get an intriguing player for Bouchard, who may or may not play.

If we trade the 9th for a 2nd line center, id do bouchard for cheechoo straight up.

probably would never happen but that would be ideal cause cheechoo only has 1 year left on his contract.

Put simply;

The upgrade from Koivu to Spezza isn't significant enough to justify moving other valuable assets.

Spezza isn't even an upgrade over Koivu.

The point of hockey is to win games, not get the most points. Koivu does more things for the Wild to win games than Spezza would.

It's debatable who's the better player. That discussion is neither or there. My point is, any potential upgrade Spezza would bring over Koivu is not significant enough to move other sought after assets. No need to haggle over semantics.

Considering the intangibles that Koivu brings and the self admitted turnover machine Spezza has become it's not an upgrade trading Koivu for Spezza.

I'd take Big Lebowski quotes over this trade.

Hmmm, hate to break it to you guys but Koivu is a second line center on any decent team. He's a more complete player than Spezza but with the 1st line minutes like he gets, even Mike Fisher would score as much as he does.

As is Spezza.

If Koivu played with players like Heatley and Alfredsson for most of his career, this wouldn't even be a conversation

Were Chicago and Philadelphia "DECENT" teams this year? Because Koivu plays the exact same game as their 1st line centers.

LOL.

Yet one more "other team fan" vastely under-valuing Mikko Koivu.

You know, I have a quote from Saku somewhere around here where he states that he thinks Mikko is a much better, more complete player than he ever was...

Take yer Spezza and have some fun with that contract.

Kthxbai.
