92/93 Leafs Comparisons

Doesn't the 2013/2014 remind you of the 1992/1993 leafs team

Gilmour ---> Kadri
Clark ---> Clarkson (Poor mans Clark)
Andreychuk ---> Kessel
Baumgartner ---> Orr
Burns ---> Carlyle

I see a lot of similarities in how this team is coming together. If any of you remember the 93 leafs, we didn't really have any studs on D but we played so well as a unit that our defense was one of the best in the league. If Carlyle can get his players to buy in to a system like Burns did we could see us get into the conference finals sometime within the next 3 years.

Kessel is way softer than Andreychuk but in terms of offensive production there is a comparison.

I think the better comparison would be JVR. He did produce well in the playoffs and they're playing style is a lot more similar.

Kessel is a peripheral playmaker with a fast release. We never had a player like that in 92/93. The closest player to Phil would be Alexander Mogilny who was a very strong playmaker.

WOWOWOWOWOW

Kadri, is not Gilmour. He can be similar(maybe with a bit more on the skill side, and a little less of an agitator) when he finishes developing, but he's got a ways to go.

The most ridiculous one though is saying kessel is like Andreychuk? lol Can I have what you're smoking? that's like saying Getzlaf and Rebeiro are comparable because they had the same amount of points this year.

Clarkson is not even close to being Clark. Don't insult the legend.

Burns had much better hair than Carlyle.

And Baumgartner wasn't even the toughest guy on those teams.

He isn't. Gilmour was probably more like a Yzerman. His defensive game was complete and, like Forsberg, he was threat everywhere. I can't see Kadri being a sheltered

Yes, Andrey was definitely more of a power forward. He was impossible to move away from the net.

Clark was a two-way guy. He was a defenceman as well. You could say, he was sort of like Red Kelly. Well, one didn't play as good defensively, but damn was he mean.

Agree.

It's an incorrect analogy. We never really had a Stevens-class defenceman. Then again, he had a better all-round defenceman in Tim Horton. He was a threat on both sides, and it may be possible that Phaneuf develops into that guy with a good PMD on his side.

My first thought too. I'd say JVR is a closer comparison.

This is one of the most ridiculous lists I've ever seen. And you forgot Borshevsky, Osborne, Berg, Foligno, Manderville...

Why don't you just list the 92-93 roster and the list the 13-14 roster and say..see!!! same!

Waste of time.

93 team was better. No Kadri is only Killer. The team should have won it all that year, this team will be fighting for a playoff spot.

Can't wait will we win a cup someday so we don't have to relive the glory of 1993, arguably the most legendary team to make it to the freaking semi finals.

I prefer to compare them to the 2002 Leafs

The way JVR and Kessel play together really reminds me of Mogilny and Sundin respectively.

Clarkson is our Roberts.

Bolland could be sorta like Tucker I suppose.

Phaneuf and McCabe, too many similarities to list, could then have Gardiner as Kaberle

Reimer isn't on the same level as Joseph, but has potential to steal games like him.

Not a perfect comparable, but I like to see the 2014 Leafs as a similar build to the 2002 edition.

LOOL

WRONG, WRONG and WRONG
92/93 were easily better players and played totally different styles...

kessel IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM is even CLOSE to the type of game andreychuk, the good ol' hamilton boy, played.

saying kadri = gilmour either means, you never saw Gilmour play, you think Gilmour sucks OR you're overrating kadri...

Last season we made the playoffs easily.

Now we upgraded our team and we will be fighting for a spot?
