Actually, the biggest need in the Kings current lineup is a left shot defenseman who can move the puck and play on the PP.

Aside from Doughty, and an inconsistent but developing Jack Johnson, there is no one at or ready for the NHL game who can make a solid breakout pass.

Fellow Kings fans lament about the lack of even strength scoring, but most of that crowd just flat out don't recognize how vital it is to have guys that can move the puck up ice quickly and accurately. It's far more important than acquiring a "sniper", and while that may be a strength of our organization in the near future, it isn't there yet. Neither Hickey or Voynov will be strong or polished enough to step in next season.

Kaberle is a perfect fit right now.

Too good to happen.

Leafs haters need to calm down, it's Berger for God's sakes. The guy's a bigger joke than the '1967' crap HF likes to spout...

so just because doughty will get a huge contract, he suddenly deserves the C more then brown? LA has no interest in trading him or taking the C away from him...

No, Brown isn't a "star" but he's on a good contract, is the team captain, and should be a mainstay on the 2nd/3rd lines for years to come.

Now, I like Kaberle and all, but I'm really not sure who I would give up for him if I were the GM. Maybe a Stoll, Moller, and Frolov's rights (a starting point anyway, I'm not really good at judging accurate trade values).

Oh, we know what we need. You are right and DL addressed this that we'll go with the kids for a year and see what happens. Problem is: you don't trade a young top 6 captain with the best contract in the NHL for an old, declining in production every year over the last 4/5 years, doesn't play on the PK, #4 d-man since that is where he'd be - #4. Plus that makes another hole on the top 6 that we already have. So instead of one hole there (on the top 6) we can have 2. Doesn't work. LA has no reason to get Kaberle when everyone knows we want Kovalchuk.

Maybe at the trade deadline we'll be interested. BUT not for DB and not for #19 overall.

Moller and a 2nd rounder is about as likely a deal as we are going to see Lombardi make tomorrow, whether its for a Kaberle type or somebody else like that.

I'd do Moller and 2 2nd's for Kaberle if he'd re-sign.

Wow, you are quite misinformed about a couple of things.

Brown is just a mediocre player on a perfect salary for his contributions.

Kaberle as a 2nd pairing or #4 defensemen is a joke. Especially on LA - behind who - Johnson? Scuderi? Greene? Please think critically before you jump to conclusions.

No, not everybody "knows" we want Kovalchuk. Don't fool yourself into thinking that is as close as you hope it is, or that "everybody" here in LA wants him.

And no, if you are trading Dustin Brown for Kaberle, the #19 would not be involved.

Do you think that would be enough for Burke to let him go?

We know how much Burke liked Moller in his draft year, but maybe that glow has faded after a couple of seasons?

Just because Doughty is unbelievably talented does not mean he should be captain. At this stage in his very young career I do not see him anywhere near captain material. He comes across as very laid back and almost goofy at times. At this point I see Johnson as a captain before Doughty.

That's not to say he wont grow into captain material but right now hes just a goofy kid.

Doubtful, but who knows, maybe the 2 2nd's allow Burke to move up and get a late first.

As a leafs fan I think you guys need brown. He is your captain and #1 RW. Although adding kaberle and kovy would make you favorites for the cup, I dont know what your gm could offer burke that wouldnt cause a gap in your top6 and that would entice burke(a young star top 6 winger).

btw kabs is a number 2 d-man, easily.

Can't we just merge all of the Dustin Brown and Bobby Ryan to Toronto threads into one slagheap of unreality?

Your not getting a "young star top 6 winger" for Kaberle.

Like my other King's fans are saying, the only thing we are giving up for Kaberle is Moller/prospects/draft picks. Whether thats enough or not, no roster players are going your way if a trade happens other than maybe Stoll or Williams...but even that is doubtful.
