Outside of Gormley and Fowler falling, pretty boring draft. Let's hope Dean has something in the works for July 1st, otherwise it's going to be a fail of an offseason. We have to get better, especially with Frolov leaving.

Canadiens fan coming over

I absolutely love what the Kings are doing. After a great season, you people ran a great draft with the organization of it in the first place, and then some rock solid selections. I know it's early but I've been a big fan of Toffoli and Weal among others. I wanted the Canadiens to pick them real bad but anyway. At least they picked Gallagher. Anyway, really impressed with how things are shaping out in LA.

I don't know how much of a need your picks fill but you still have a good bunch of players to trade if need be.

Just got home. I was working (volunteer) at the Upper Deck, where kids shoot the puck and we gave them a pack of cards. All the kids were real nice. Brown was there for an hour signing pictures. Several drafties brought there younger brothers and sisters by to play the game. Had a blast but did not get to see any of the draft. Oh well they could have put me in the parking lot.

Mike Futa comments on the draft:

You have to put it all together, and we’re ecstatic. I know how much Dean talks about getting players in certain layers. We had the defenseman we took yesterday [Derek Forbort] far ahead of where we picked him. He had kind of given us the go-ahead, in the past couple years when we’ve been re-stocking shelves, when you’re looking for players who you hope can step in a little quicker. This year, there was not as much of an urgency. We were able to take a guy who might spend four years in school, or take a European that we’re not so worried about whether Max Kitsyn is there tomorrow. The time is now for us to be able to make moves like that.

That alone makes us better! If the kings can just replace him with someone who shows up for 82 games that will be a big improvement

I might be in the minority, but at where he fell to, I really would have liked to land Kabanov.

I like that other teams fans are saying they liked LA's draft. Don't know about any of them, but look forward to seeing them at camp next week.

Losing 30 goals and replacing him with nobody makes us better? You're being a little dramatic.

30 goals! We are talking about Frolov right? Believe me I wanted him to be a king for life but he just seems like a sore thumb out there and does not show up for 82 games. If you want to be a super star and get paid like a super star he has to be accounted for on the ice and not disappear for multible games at a time.
I believe Parse for a full season or Simmonds in more of a scoring role will be more then plenty to replace Frolov's stats.

Derek Forbort (9th), Tyler Toffoli (16th), Jordan Weal (30th)
and Maxim Kitsyn (was Ranked 6th Euro)

and got FOUR picks in THN's Top 60

The more I look at it Kings did GREAT actually ...

#15th overall = Derek Forbort
Scouting Ranking = TSN/McKenzie (11); NHL CS (9 NA); ISS (10); THN (11)

#47th overall = Tyler Toffoli
Scouting Ranking = TSN/McK (27); NHL CS (16 NA); ISS (38); THN (40)

#70th overall = Jordan Weal
Scouting Ranking = TSN/McK (48); NHL CS (30 NA); ISS (32); THN (41)

#148th overall = Kevin Gravel
Scouting Ranking = TSN/McK (?); NHL CS (? NA); ISS (?); THN (83)

#158th overall = Maxim Kitsyn
Scouting Ranking = TSN/McK (59); NHL CS (6 Euro); ISS (49); THN; (43)

Even though the Kings traded away a quantity of picks the return in quality picks from this draft is impressive.

Great draft!

I'd just like to say I'm very pleased with the draft LA pulled off today. DL and his scouts I think made some great selections.

Forbort is maybe the one which gives me the most unease, but also the most excitment. He is being touted as Myers II and whether that's accurate or not, some teams apparently had him as their topped ranked blueliner. To get him at 15 is a great pickup, and I think our prospect blueline is so deep, it's just sickening (in a good way )

Adding Toffoli and Weal I also like a lot. They are character guys, but also skill guys, and getting that combo isn't always easy. Doing so in the 2nd and 3rd round is even harder, but Toffoli seems like a sure-fire to make the NHl at some point, it's just a matter of how good he'll be when he gets here. Weal meanwhile looks like he could be a Cammalleri type, or a Marc Savard maybe is more accurate. If he can become a top-two line guy, he'll be a good pick up.

Kytsin meanwhile is what you should be taking sometimes in the late rounds, a flyer, but one with a huge amount of upside. I doubt he's a homerun if he makes it, but he's likely a 20-25 goal guy who can be a key piece on the second line. It's the classic low risk, high reward scenario.

Gravel likely will be the overlooked prospect from this draft for next two years, just because his game is less flashy than the other picks, plus he was so far down the draft list. After two years, if he's matured, he'll still have a long line of prospects to push through, but here's hoping another poster is correct and he turns into an Aaron Miller type.

Overall, I'm pleased with how the crew has drafted in the past few years and I think this draft could be a great one, though there is a lot of if's with these guys (as always).

Anyways, just wanted to post praise where I feel praise is due.

Thanks DL and the scouts. This could be a key step towards the

He's been a 30 goal scorer most of his career. Last year was an anomoly. I'm not on the Frolov bandwagon but saying we win by losing him isn't close to rational.

I support where you are coming from, but Frolov has played seven NHL seasons and hit the 30 goal level twice. That's not most of his career. In the other five seasons, the highest he reached was 24 goals.

Given what he's allegedly asking for compared with the effort and output, I have no problem with the idea of spending that money elsewhere. If he's willing to take less than market value, I'd love to see him back on the Kings. But my days of assuming he'll be a 30 goal winger are over. I hope, but I don't assume. He just isn't consistent enough.

Hello, just visiting from DRW-land.

I love draft time. It's one of the few times where just about everyone is living on dreams and is riding the crest of the wave (except for TOR, CAL, and NYR). I'm impressed by your picks, but not bitter, because we also got #18, #29, and #30 on HF's list.

Also, I hear you hate ducks almost as much as we do...

Other than Florida I cant think of anyone else but they had 5 picks in the first two rounds, so if you look at it that way, I cant see anyone else that picked as good as the Kings did with the picks that they had.

With my two favorite teams being LA and detroit, I am not a fan of the Ducks.

On a lighter note great draft for both those teams!

LA had great picks in Forbort, Weal, and TT

Det had great European later rounders as always in Mr. Ironhook Calle Jarnkrok and Teemu Pulkkinen
