Clarke Q & A

http://www.philadelphiaflyers.com/pr...chive/1636.asp

Primeau, Zhamnov and Malakhov are the priority.

Sounds like LeClair, Amonte and Recchi's future will eb determined by the CBA.

Man, I hope there is NHL hockey next year!!

Q – Do you anticipate having to bring Carter and Richards along, or at least one of them?

Clarke – Yeah, provided we play we certainly think one or both of them have a chance. If there’s no CBA, they have to go back to junior. They are both potential candidates to play next year.

Q – What about Malakhov?
Clarke – He said he wanted to play and he wanted to stay here. Great player.
Good news there.

Noone will take John's salary.
Recchi might come back, at a reduced salary, and I don't know Amonte's situation. I believe he's still under contract.

Correct about LeClair and Rex.....and Amonte is sill under contract, but in the same boat as LeClair. No one will take that salary for what he brings to the table.

4 years and 24 mil is what PHX gave him? So 2 more seasons at 6 mil I'd assume.

LeClair and Amonte both face the possibility that they will be bought out.

I believe that 5 or 6 of the 24 million was in a signing bonus, so i think he has 2 years and about $9 million total remaining.

If they can be bought out, and who knows how much the buyout goes against the cap?

They can certainly be bought out. 2/3rds of the remaining contract value.

If they were bought out anytime before the new CBA was put into place none of it would count against a proposed tax/cap.

If bought out after, then it would depends upon the rules they write.

That would be great that it wouldn't count against the cap, but $12 mil for LeClair's buyout and $6+ mil for Amonte's......that's still a huge hit. Maybe Comcast could write it off as garbage removal.

A couple things I liked were that Seidenberg will probably be with the big club next year and Niittymaki will get a chance to play some more games. Save Pittsburgh, it may be the youngest goalie tandem in the league.

FYI - Ed Snider will be on DNL.

Amonte has 2 years 5 mil per left according to DNL.

That is what the Inquirer had. But according to the NHLPA he was paid $5,846,914 this season. I think he made that last season as well. Add those two seasons up and the 4.8m signing bonus as well and subtract it from 24m and you get 7.5m remaining. That's about 3.75m a year over the next two years. However, I assume the Flyers ate some of the signing bonus or the ESPN figure of 4.8m was incorrect.

I love LeClair, but I'd try to buy him out. I want Malakhov back as well as Zhamy and Markov (I think he may still be under contract). I want Primeau back, and I'd try to sign Rex to a cheaper deal. Amonte? I don't know that you can buy him out as well as Big John, but if you can, then yeah, go for it. I think JR should retire, due to his concussions, not his play or anything else. Burke? Bye, bye. On D, I think either Rico or rags are goners.

Next year?
Gagne Primeau Kapanen
Amonte Zhamnov Recchi
Brashear Handzus Radivojevic
Fedoruk Sharp Somik

Malakhov Markov
Ragnarsson ? Johnsson
Pitkanen Desjardins?
Seidenberg Timander

Esche
Niitymaki

Carter, Richards, possibly Ruzicka due in a year. Picard or Rosario the following year or maybe one more. Poltulny, the next year plus the remainder of Rosario and Picard. Drozdetsky? Who knows?

I'm very encouraged by Clarke's and Snider's statements today. Snider even said that if it came to it they would buy people out. He also said the Flyers didn't break even and even if they went to the finals they still would have lost money. But I think overall Comcast-Spectacor or whatever it's called is profitable. He also said he was very excited about Niittymaki but those bozos didn't seem to bother talking about it.

Good signs today that LeClair, Recchi, and Amonte may not be with us, and Zhamnov and Malakhov will likely be back.

Let's just hope they don't sign Zhamnov at a higher price than he's worth.

I wouldn't mind having Recchi back to finish his career here at a lower cost. He is still a much more productive player then either LeClair or Amonte, both of whom I'd like to see gone at all cost.

I'd also love to see Niittymaki and Carter with the big club next year, but I dount it'll happen.

Say it comes down to Burke walking and LeClair and Amonte getting bought out. Recchi signs with the team at a reasonable rate because I think he wants to stay here. Zhamnov and Malakhov are resigned and Timmander goes to MoDo because I believe he signed a contract there. Also Roenick comes back cause he's not gonna retire cause he didn't win a cup. Lapointe is done with this organization. Our roster would look like....

fowards:

Gagne - Zhamnov - Roenick

Brashear - Primeau - Kapanen

Somik - Handzus - Recchi

Richards/Carter - Sharp - Radivojevic

ex: Fedoruk as a part time enforcer

defense:

Malakhov - Markov

Pitkanen - Ragnarsson

Johnsson - Desjardins

ex: Seidenberg (I really want to see him start as a top 6 )

goalies:

Esche and Niitymaki

I have to add this is pretty much wishful thinking

Nice roster, but I'd like to see both Carter and Richards get time on the team.

You're also making a vast assumption that Roenick isn't going to retire.
