Darren Dreger says FLA getting lots of interest for the #15 pick. I'm sure Gillis has kicked the tires on that but I doubt much more. I'm guessing Tallon would move that pick in a trade down situation so he'd be picking up quite a few more picks and would make an even better potential trading partner should Gillis not have someone at 25 he feels he can't wait to draft.

After watching his TSN interview last night I agree. Seems to be very cool collected composed and smart.

Not expecting anything major from a Canucks POV. Gillis has been using some form of the word "patience" in every sentence lately.

draft using the criteria of cool name/ hype.

sure having any old player develop into a solid NHLer is good.. but if you can get a solid NHLer with a killer last name you're set

I agree with the first two, second two I could see happening but I'm not 100% sold on. I think Sheahan will be gone before the Canucks pick, TBH.

I think Brett Connolly falls out of the top 10. One of the teams with two 1sts will also select Calvin Pickard.

I just can't see Kabanov falling through the draft entirely.

Players in the past that have, have even more question marks going in than Kabanov has (think Riddick Kruise, or Andrei Kuchin last season)... Kabanov has enough of an interesting package that I can't see him falling any further than the 4th round at most... but I think that one of the several teams that have multiple 2nd round picks in this draft will end up taking him in that 2nd round.

McKenzie and McGuire thought that Kabanov would fall to the second round and perhaps even to the third round.

As Bob McKenzie in TSN's pre-draft special noted this is not "The Russian Factor" - this is a behaviour issue.

EJ Maguire head of Central Scouting while noting Kabanov had top end talent said Kabanov did not just burn his bridges, he blew them up.

Here is the general consensus:

yup... there likely isn't a player in this draft that has more red flags than Kabanov... but that's the reason that a guy who would otherwise be a consensus top-10 pick will fall in the draft. Though I doubt there's enough red flags around to make him fall out of the draft entirely.

Draft order for all seven rounds with trades of picks noted up:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_NHL_Entry_Draft

No compensatory picks this year as far as I can see.

He won't fall out of the draft. Just might fall past the first round and into tomorrow.

RLR thinks this is a strong goaltending draft:
Quote:
After two very down years, Red Line Report is finally seeing what we consider to be one of the stronger goaltending classes in the past few years. This year's crop has both a high-end stud and plenty of depth.

The clear-cut No. 1 guy here is Jack Campbell, who combines good athleticism and a calm demeanor with the most important bottom line quality any goalie can possess: the ability to win the big games.
...
For Red Line, the second tier of goaltenders includes Calvin Pickard and Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hocke...rospects_N.htm
Red Line Report's top 10 goaltending prospects
Code:
Rank	Name Ht./Wt.	Projected Round
1	Jack Campbell	6-2/185	1st round
2	Calvin Pickard	6-0/207	1st
3	Mathieu Corbeil	6-6/193	2nd
4	Sam Brittain	6-3/212	2nd/3rd
5	Philippe Grubauer	6-0/178	2nd/3rd
6	Brian Billett 6-1/183	3rd
7	Fredrik Wentzel	6-0/176	3rd
8	Kent Simpson	6-2/186	3rd
9	Petr Mrazek 5-11/178	3rd
10	Mark Visentin	6-1/186	3rd

4th Overall Pick Avaliable

Source

This is the perfect opportunity for the Canucks to draft a top pairing d-man. Either Fowler or Gudbranson are expected to go around this area.

To CBJ:
Mason Raymond
Yann Sauve
25th Overall

To VAN:
4th Overall

I wouldn't move assets on the roster for futures given the relative age of our core. I'd move other prospects/picks/AHL roster players, not Raymond though.

My thoughts exactly.

1. Not enough going to Columbus, they would never accept that.
2. Gillis isn't going to trade Raymond.

I think Gillis would be stupid not to trade Raymond if it meant getting us a top 5 pick. Why do we even need Raymond now? Sedins, Burr, Kesler, Grabner, Hodgson, Shroder (sp), Samuellson, Bernier (lesser extent) - we do not need another forward.

I make this trade in a heartbeat.

How many goals did Grabner, Hodgson, and Schroeder have last year in the NHL (combined)? Grabner had 5, Hodgon had 0, and Schroeder had 0.

None of them are currently a good replacement for Raymond.
