I should add, I am still pleased with the deal if this is it as it is. Oreskovich is a big, physical presence who is likely slotted into the bottom six. Ballard immediately improves the defense. It sucks to lose Grabner, but you have to give to get.

gotta give something to get something. if this goes through, I would like to know a little bit more about Keith Ballard. either way, in Gillis I trust.

I'm hoping that even if Grabner leaves, we make another trade

no need to be conflicted about it, its obviously a bad trade for us. Can you imagine giving up two first round and two second round for a player who never play in the playoff before.

At first i was very happy.... now... mixed. I think we all really did like Grabs and it took so much time for him to develop, he sort of seems like ours. Hope we get it finalized soon.

I like McArdle more than i do this other guy...

Let's wait for the trade to be announced before we panic too much

We need the kids to step up or Gillis has more work to do.

25th pick + Bernier for a top-pairing defenceman (under contract for several years) was too good to be true. You gotta give to get.

I like Grabner and he took some big steps this year, so I hope he does well in FLA. But he's not a giant loss.

This is still an excellent trade, Ballard is a top two defenceman that dishes out incredible hip checks and blocks shots.

Grabner is not a deal breaker considering he is still largely unproven and with the amount of depth Canucks have on the wing position. I'm hearing a lot of good things on Oreskovich(sp), he is apparently an excellent grinder that loves to hit.

i feel grabner has the potential to score four or five in a game when he is on.if included i don't like this trade at all.i guess you have to give up a grabner to get rid of a bernier???

Gillis is gonna re build the bottom 6 a bit methinks.

But come on, how can you be mad at this trade?

We gave up a 1st, a bad contract, and a guy who has top 6 talent, but doesn't fit anywhere in our top 6 right now to fill a huge positional weakness with a guy signed long term, entering his prime on a good contract who can play in every situation.

Legit top pairing d-man? Keith Ballard? Solid defensively, but that's a bit of a stretch.

no, it's not "obviously" a bad trade... #1 dmen don't grow on trees, and Ballard is a #1 dman, something we desperately needed on this team. I think you massively underrate Ballard.

and your summary is pretty one-sided as well... you do realize that Ballard himself is a 1st round pick as well - taken higher in the draft than anyone that the Canucks give up in this deal, while Oreskovich is a 2nd rounder.

I think some people are really underrating the impact that Ballard can have... he comes in as our best dman overall, and a group of Ballard, Edler and Ehrhoff to build around (hopefully Ehrhoff extends) over the next several years is a very solid top-3.

I don't mind giving up Grabs.. honestly, where was he going to play?

Top 6 is set.. have the likes of Hodgson, Schroeder, Shirokov, Rodin etc who have just as much of a chance to make an impact.. you have to give to get.

Hrm, I'm still on board with Ballard, and Grabner WAS basically expendable with Raymond, Schroeder and Hodgson kicking around.

Bernier is junk, but the 25th overall hurts a bit more now.

No it's not. Based on every single stat out there he's a top pairing D-man and is massively undervalued because he's in Florida.

I'm not mad at it, Ballard is a guy I really wanted. I think he's a great fit for this team.

I credit Gillis for cutting his losses with Bernier, some GMs would not trade him because it was someone they invested in.

I'm just not as wild about adding Grabner. I think that's steep, and it puts more pressure on July 1 to improve the forward corps than was already there.

it hurts because it is significantly worse than what it appeared the deal was. I wish grabner could have stayed out of this one.

It makes some sense if you think that Sedin-Sedin-Burrows-Kesler-Raymond-Samuelsson will be top six with Hodgson and Schroeder making their way in the next couple of years.

In a way perhaps Grabner just wasn't in our long term plans....

We simply do not have roster space for Grabner, so I am still happy with this trade.

to
Ballard and Oreskovich forr 25th overall, Steve Bernier and Michael Grabner
