Does making the Stanley Cup Finals take away 8+ years of pain?
As a fan who has followed them through the lean years, I can't be more proud of the Flames... was it worth missing the playoffs for 7 years? hell yea... we are the first Canadian team to be in the finals since montreal in 93!!
I mean, as good as the leafs, sens and canucks have been the last several years, none of them have made it to where the flames are...
so yea, if we win the cup this year, i'd be satisfied with missing the playoffs for another 7-8 years just to win the cup again after that
This statement solidifies the "Hell yes" option. Jeff "Friggin" Shantz....unreal.
Actually, there is a connection to the present. Jeff Shantz was a Brian Sutter favorite. He was brought over from the Hawks for Michael Nylander, whom Brian Sutter got to coach twice. Nylander most definitely was not a Brian Sutter favorite. Anyhow, it was on recommendation from a couple of the brothers, which persuaded Brian to encourage Al Coates to bring Shantz to Calgary. He may have played under Daryl with the Blackhawks. In all fairness, Shantz often gave his all, even though there wasn't that much to give.
Just to show you how hardcore my allegiance was to the Flames, please allow me to share a little personal story. Before there was NHL Center Ice, the only way to catch the Flames was on the late game on HNIC, or once a year in Buffalo, against the Sabres. One time, while in a compromising position with a lady friend up in Ottawa, the Flames game was on TV. (It may have even been against the Blackhawks.) Shantz was on one of the top two lines, at that time. During that time, the Flames ALWAYS faced the other teams' backup goalies. Looking back, my priorities were definitely a little out of whack.
