So bummed there wasn't more trades though. Would have loved to see Carter to the Kings...

I must have fallen asleep and missed the interview with Dean and Forbort.

I'm pretty satisfied with the pick..no complaints from me. We'll see in a few years where he's at.

Lots of questions directed at Derek about his plans for next year. He didn't make it sound like North Dakota is set in stone.

9 on the Kings total list of players rated or 9 on their own list of players that they were considering?

How do you know he was at 9th on the Kings list?

From his HF profile

Quote:

One of the most talented defensemen in the 2010 draft. Exceptional decision-making. Has the size and skating and is very agile. Doesn't like to carry the puck, but his passes are laser sharp. He could stand to add a bit of grit to his game.

Committed to the University of North Dakota for the fall of 2010. Projects as a No. 1 defender in the NHL.

So far sounds like Dean is perfectly content with Derek going to North Dakota.

This pretty much bumps Tuebert to 3rd pairing status then. Not that I'm complaining with:

Doughty Johnson
Forbort Hickey
Tuebert Voynov

Why the hell does Teubert keep coming up? This isn't an either/or competition. Not all these prospects are going to pan out.

It was a BPA pick. We essentially moved from 19 to 10 today. I don't know how anyone could not be happy about that.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think it makes any one player necessarily a candidate to be traded but it gives Dean flexibility. And honestly, I don't think there's much upside to moving Teubert right now. His value isn't probably high enough league wide to generate enough viable offers for Dean to consider moving him at this point.

I still think Hickey is the biggest candidate to be on the move all things considered but I don't expect it to happen. Unless Dean signs a Martin or Hamuis I think he likes the defensive prospect depth, especially given how young DD and JJ are as well.

To me, Hickey and Voinov are obvious tradebait.

I just listened to an interview posted on the kings twitter and DL said he was actually trying to move up 4 or 5 spots before we did to take this kid.

LOMBARDI: “Well, obviously he was higher on our list than a lot of other people. You see that happen. I’m pretty sure Anaheim was surprised Fowler was there. But again, that’s what can happen. But yeah, obviously he was, or we wouldn’t get that aggressive and try to move up. The guys who were around there, they were falling [getting picked], and if he goes, then we stop, and we probably move back. I had some deals to move back. Quite frankly, when we got to (pick) 10, I thought we were going back. Then it goes the other way.”

This stuck out to me.

Quote:
“It’s still the best player available. If they’re tied, then I’ll trend toward forwards. Then again, I could make one deal at some point and then it’s, `Boom, it’s a good thing we’ve got extra defensemen.’ Tomorrow is usually when you get a little more movement, in terms of people wanting picks and things.”

Also, I'm sure one or two of our dmen prospects will get traded this off season.
That makes sense...

And I hope there's a trade coming!
