I'm really excited about the Stars releasing their new jerseys.
Has anyone heard if they are going to appoint a captain at the same time? It'd really help solidify the new Identity.
Who do you think it'll be? I know there was a discussion earlier but now that the season is wrapped up I think we can gage better who finished strong, played consistent or if we should take a seniority approach.
I do think Benn fits in better with the captains table of the pacific division(now defunct)
but the division has a visible trend with captains
Doan
Brown
Thornton
Getzlaf
The division is clearly led by guys who will skate through you if not around you (save for Getzlaf) but his size at least makes up for it. I think Benn would be a nice addition to the group.
Ask next summer. They'll rotate the A until they have a better idea about this group of young players and whether Dillon is ready for even more responsibility or if Benn will take this club by the scruff of the neck and drag it forward. They'll wait or Whitney will be the temporary choice.
Lots of talk about "culture of winning" going on since GMJN got hired, so I think they will go with an old pro like Whitney to try to set the right example for a certain younger player. I don't expect things to be given to players that they haven't earned, and other than Robidas and Whitney there isn't a good candidate who has achieved anything at the NHL level.
^^ I agree this team has shown they have all the right ideas they just need leadership and whether that's putting it on a young captain to grow with the team or giving it to a veteran as a place holder. The team needs someone to represent them as a whole.
I really don't like teams that cycle their letters and for the most part they don't show much success.
Florida
Minnesota(few years ago)
Buffalo
CBJ (surprised this season) I personally think it's Johnson's team now.
For the people who voted for Daley, can you explain your pick a little? How has someone who has never worn the 'A' in his long career in Dallas all of a sudden going to be the Captain?
Giving the C out right now is more about who's going to be our guy moving forward. It's making a statement and passing the torch. That's not Whitney. And he doesn't need a letter on his jersey to be a leader. He brings what he brings regardless.
That said, if Whitney did get it I wouldn't be shocked, nor opposed. I just think this team is moving forward and now is the time to give it to the next generation of Stars.
I think that, given the options available, he's the best fit going into next season.
I don't think Benn is ready yet. Maybe the plan is to give Benn the C eventually, maybe that happens next month, who knows.
But I feel Daley would serve just fine as this team's captain. He's tops on the list of tenured Stars, I believe, and just because he's never worn a letter in Dallas, I don't think that negates any leadership qualities that he has.

Daley, Whitney, and Dillon announced as alternates. Perhaps Benn and Robidas get rotated in there as well. Benn takes the A after Whitney leaves. This pattern continues until someone emerges as an actual captain.
The obvious pick for me is Robidas. I think all this talk of franchise player may have went to Benn's head, his performance this last season was simply not acceptable for large stretches of games. Robidas may be over his head on the 1st pairing, but at least he sets the example of coming to fight every night and being one tough s.o.b.
