Whitney at 40 is forty times the player Modano was.

I've learned not to assume, especially where Modano fanboys are concerned.

I was definitely joking. Seeing all the moronic comments on the Stars facebook statuses only reaffirm the fact that most Stars "fans" know jack**** about hockey or the NHL.

That's why it was hard to tell if it was a joke. There are still many Modano fans who think the Stars screwed him over.

You can sign all the fake contracts you want, Modano retired a RED WING.

Speaking of this, I'll have Brodeur if he signs anywhere but New Jersey. It's stupid, pointless, and selfish. I know Brodeur is a bit different as he can actually still be a huge part of a franchise, but still.

hehe... and emmitt was a cardinal, Montana a chief, and now p manning a bronco... when the dust settles, we know which team to ascribe with each player.

i never wholly understood this sentiment. sure, in the ideal world of the fan, i'd like the franchise player to retire as part of that franchise. but if i'm a professional athlete and still think i can play and contribute to a team, and my former team doesn't want me back, then i'd try to take my talent elsewhere. it's his life. his decision. whatever happens this season, years from now, brodeur will be a new jersey devil. do people remember bobby orr's end in chicago? or pat lafontaine with nyr? trottier in pittsburgh?

That's why I said Brodeur was different, but New Jersey still wants him back.

With Modano, it was obvious to everyone except him that he was done.

Nah, I love the fact that this thread is constantly near the top of the boards despite no one actually saying to fire him for months and months.

I wonder if Joe pitched the idea of signing these older guys to let the young players mature in Texas/Juniors/College and will get another season or two after this one to see if his plan comes to fruition down the road? Gotta think he has bought himself some time with what he's done this off-season.
