Here's a link to a thread about Bennett. They actually have some good comments about Denver, and in particular, its strength and conditioning program. Hopefully Beau benefits like Bruins prospect Joe Colborne did at the Pioneers, which was to put on 20-30lbs of muscle.

one of the best programs I'd want a prospect coming out of, from the NCAA ranks.

Well here's the boom/bust winger for everyone that wanted one.

I think this is a pretty exciting pick.

The kid has the hands, skating, scoring touch, and vision that you can't teach. He can get stronger and learn how to play responsibly in his own end. Like others are saying, I love that Shero went away from the safe grinder type and swung for the fences with this pick. I'll be excited to hear how his development at Denver goes the next few years!

BTW, Beauregard is totally a hound dog name. His nick name should be Hound Dog. Then if he plays on a line with Tangradi it will be the Dog line.

The Denver Pioneers are always stacked with NHL prospects (13 last season, including Pens 2004 3rd rounder Brian Gifford) and are one of the best teams in one of the best NCAA conferences. The team has lost 6 forwards to graduation or pro signings this spring so Bennett should be able to step right in. He'll take at least two years to build up his strength and overall game before he can think about turning pro.

That's promising. Seems like he needs to start serious conditioning and I assume he'll have to learn to play a more physical game at the college level, against older men.

How the hell do we not have the new rankings yet? He's been a Penguin for a good half hour already...

I'd be guessing about four...which should be expected when drafting at #20.

Yeah I was gonna say absolute best case scenario is he plays two years at Denver and then a year in the AHL. But more than likely he plays at least three at Denver to work on his conditioning, strength, and just total skills. Also, since according to one of those things he needs to stop floating around basically, he will learn how to work hard nonstop because Gwozdecky won't let any of that happen.

Coached and played against him in roller. Disgusting hands, very smooth skater, scary skinny. Fast skater who doesn't look like he's skating fast, if that makes sense.

I never heard of Beau Bennett before we picked him. After reading his scouting reports, he's an interesting prospect, for sure. I like the fact that he will go to one of best hockey college programs.

I take back Sykora comparison back. Right handed. Really great on the powerplay. Lethal 1 timer with a quick release. Can set up and score. Has good hockey IQ. Undersized, not a whole lot of toughness. Tends to play perimeter.

****in guy sounds like Ray Whitney.

Maybe his guy could be like mike bossy because I read somewhere that he was picked for his skill at the time he was drafted he wasn't very physical at all at the time as well. So there are some similarities due to his offensive skill but lack of grit.

Having this guy on the left wall of our powerplay with his one timer. 87 is going to make him a rich man.

The arena where he plays is like 10 minutes from my house.

I've seen him play a few times, but I wasn't watching him specifically so I don't have an incredibly well-informed opinion of him. I definitely remember that he had very slick skills, but he was playing on a team that was wiping the floor with most of the BCHL so I have no idea how he'd fare against better competition. Penticton is nearly as good as some CHL teams and they're playing in a Junior A league.

Overall, I like the pick. We needed to take a bit of a chance on someone who has the potential to turn into a top-line player.

Terrific, just what we need.
I'll take a soft guy if he puts pucks in the back of the net which is something we have a real lack of at the wings whereas it's pretty easy to grab the high traffic area.

Plus his video shows him on the left slot side on the powerplays cranking one timers with his right handed shot.... that IS something we needed badly. If he pans out he'll be just what the doctor ordered.

With the type of players we have on our team, it sounds like he has the kind of skill that would fit in really well with the players already on our roster.

Besides, we have enough guys that can slam opposing players into the glass. What we don't have is players that can put the puck in the net.
