Real_ESPNLeBrun
The San Jose Sharks have re-signed defenseman Niclas Wallin and center Scott Nichol. Both veteran players were slated to be UFA

Just the basics. More to come.

I have a mancrush on Nichol like I'm sure most people here do, and I'm higher on Wallin than most, so I'm happy.

e: happiness barring ridiculous cap hit

I think we may be a bit disappointed in the cap hit, somehow. Didn't Wallin have to waive his NTC to come here (and therego, discussion about a new contract?)

This. Anything over 1m is major overpayment.

I'm a little suprised at Wallin, i did not think he ws that great with us and he's a #5/6 depth D player which we have plenty of. I'm thinking there is a deal in the works that will move out a #5/6 D - Huskins or Demers.

I do not believe that any one of these players is top 4 D ready for this season. Demers maybe, probally not until the 2 seasons out.

Agree.

And if it is, I think a good sign Murray or Huskins may be dealt. Wallins would be a cheaper #5.

I'll reserve complete judgment until the details are released, but I'm glad Nichol is coming back.

Maybe they call him the Secret Weapon because of his elite negotiation skills!

Or he threatened to give DW the Corporate Elbow...

Does Capgeek round the cap hit for the list? It says Nichol made 800k but actually made 750k, while Wallin is listed at 1.7 mill and made 1.725 mill. For the love of god Wallin better not be making anything near that kind of money.

nichol is cool, wallin is just a mistake. He was terrible. Only way I would consider keeping him is if one of Huskins/Murray were on the way out.

Yep - if he has a cheaper cap hit than either, I'm fine w/ this trade. Murray, if he gets dealt, would be tough to lose but we just can't/shouldn't spend $2.5m on a #5 D, which is what he is.

Love the signings. Not so exicited about the Wallin signing. Well see how that pans out. Why hasn't seto signed? is his agent and him being a pain in the ass.

you sure you're not mixing up cap hit with salary?

Lots of RFAs not yet signed so I don't think there's much of a delay really. Signing Pavs before July 1 was a boon and a sign how important he is to the Sharks - Seto is, too, but in the eyes of DW, not as....

He'll get signed, I'm sure, unless he expects $4m or something...

Yeah, we need to get him signed.

I'm thinking, Seto wants 4 million or higher.

Seto deserves a raise, but NOT that much of a raise. He needs to be more consistent.

And i'm just glad, we are getting all these guys signed before I go on my trip to Europe.

I'll be checking HF daily during the free agent frenzy to see if we signed anybody aka: Hanhuis, Volchenkov. That would be nice.
