So, in essence, they traded him for Jyri Niemi and a 2nd round pick...

Of course Sather will trade that 2nd at next years deadline for a rental
The way the line-up looks right now, we won't have to trade up to the top 10.

Perfectly fine with this trade. Since '06 I've been trying to figure out what was so special about Sanguinetti anyway.

I wish him the best of luck though.

What a terrible weekend so far.

Not because of who's been picked and who's been moved.

I dont get the thinking behind we should have given him a chance. His chance comes at the expense of other, seemingly better players. Its not like you can just throw him in for 20 games and not sit someone else out. McD is the rookie this year, I'm fairly sure of that. There's no room for Sangs here

So we basically traded Bobby Sanguinetti for Jody Shelley, a 6th in 2010 and a 2nd in 2011?

I'll take it. Heck, i would have taken Shelley for Sanguinetti straight up LOL

Sorry my bad, I meant Niemi.

What's the deal with the Shelley conditional pick?

You don't mind getting pretty much NOTHING in the way of NHL talent by selecting Montoya, Jessiman, Korpikoski, Sangs during our 'rebuild???

Some fans, that make it so easy for guys like SLATS.....

No I definitely agree with that...the franchise is hanging it's hat on Gilroy being the other offensive guy...LOL.

I don't understand why people got so down on a kid who scored at a 0.5 ppg clip in the AHL and was an all-star twice. Not to mention that 23 isn't exactly old considering Dmen take longer to develop.

This trade and the McIlrath pick have Torts written all over them.

Proof positive that the draft is a crap shoot. Remember, the Flyers wanted Sangs and were so stunned that Clarke forgot the name Giroux when he went up to draft him. Who knew? Maybe this years "cement head" number one will be better than the "meat head", Sangs.

the torts pick wouldve been fowler because he joins the rush

I think the thing with Sangs was that he didn't seem to show much progression this year. Seemed to stall, and didn't do anything in his NHL call-up.

And we are hanging our hats on Del Zotto, not Gilroy, for being our offensive d-man.

At least the rangers are the best in the league at something. Unfortunately it's wasting first round picks.

first off, like many others have said, sangs has had many chances. he was drafted in 2006, it is 2010 and he looks no closer to being an NHLer now than he did then. in the few games he was here, he looked awful. look at a guy like MDZ. drafted 2008, made the big club a year later. know why? he has the goods. sangs clearly hasn't shown he has them (i personally don't think he does for the top level).

and in no way does dumping sangs mean passing on fowler is worse...we already have our top-offensive/PP d-man in MDZ, who has more offensive potential than fowler. more importantly, MDZ is physical and can take the body. fowler is CHARMIN SOFT. so picking him would have been great given the team's toughness and physicality on the blueline in recent years

sangs had seemingly no future with this club. better to sell him now (his value was never going to get higher people. he wasn't going to make the team and another year in the AHL would've made his value lower if anything) than have him become a RFA. imo opinion they were able to salvage a bad draft pick from the pre-gordie era.

and i love how everyone's acting like we traded a fan favorite can't miss NHLer. he was a former first round pick whose chances of making the big club got seemingly smaller and smaller every year. big deal.

makes you wonder with sangs being 22 and the organization becoming inpatience with him will the same happen with mcilrath? sather did say that when he's 22 he's going to impress people if hes on the big club. or something along those lines
