Devils select G Scott Wedgewood with 84th pick

As a season ticket holder for the Plymouth Whalers, I think you guys will be pleased with Wedgewood. I do not think it was a crap shoot. He is a very good goalie who needs more experience in the net, but I think he will turn into a great prospect.

Going to start a tread on each draft pick, firgured it would be easier to share and learn info about each prospect than from one big thread.

Hackett signed with the Wild last month, so Wedge (love that nickname by the way) will probably get the vast majority of the duties in Plymouth.

It will be interesting to see what he can do in the starters role.

Hopefully he will step into his new starting role well. He's definitely a few years out, it will be interesting to see him develop in juniors.

I'm looking at his bio and it says he made 70 saves in a 3-2 OT loss to Windsor this past year. Not bad for a 17 year old, must be talented.

Impressive against a stacked Windsor team, but you can't base his talent on one game.

He plays for Plymouth not Windsor but idk what their situation is I hope he just gets a ton of playing time

I'm just surprised we took a guy that seemed like such a reach at that spot without trading down. I have to think Wedgewood might have been available a few picks lower, or even at our fourth round spot. But what do I know, maybe he wouldn't have been.

I just went from one team to the other in one sentence(brain fart). Still, he'll be the starter in Plymouth this year so we'll see what he's made of.

Is he definitely going to be the starter there next season? Because that would be silly if we just used this pick on a guy who won't even be starting.

The kid before him signed with his NHL team (Min?).

Right, but he could still have his spot usurped, like what happened to Frazee. I'm just hoping he is going to be the starter in Plymouth for the next couple years so he develops properly.

Hopefully he has a better attitude than Frazee did back then.

I can't pan this pick too much. Even if Wedgewood busts, at least we have Clermont as an insurance policy.

Minnesota's coach didnt really help either haha. There's a reason that a lot of pro prospects who go to Minny leave after their first season

Honestly, when I look at them I see the relationship going the other way around. Which is fine, it doesn't matter so long as they're in competition with one another.

Clermont might end up being the better goalie, but Wedgewood has more to live up to because of his draft position. Either way, I'm glad we have two worthwhile goalie prospects from this draft, and nobody gets unfairly anointed "Marty's heir" before he is ready for it.

I still would like to see one more goalie in the mix. McKenna is not an NHLer. Go to SJ, trade for one of their guys and have him duke it out with Frazee in Albany. I like Sateri, but I'm not sure how high SJ is on him. That was a kid I wanted NJ to go for in the '08 after not getting Markstrom. Greiss is the starter as of now, so he might be expendable.

I'm sure Lou can find an undrafted guy somewhere.
