Then again, who knows what's gonna happen with our goalies. Price is good, but can he perform well most of the 82 games? Anything can happen, and I stand my ground by saying that rebuilding is the solution and it begins with the draft. We have a good core, then we need to add top end prospects.
I did not want to start any debate either, thats why I used the word acquire. I think the Habs are going to fight for a playoff spot all year and pick between 15-20. But because of the parity in the league and because you never know what could happen with injuries, players progressing or regressing, and breakout teams, I didn't want to try to guess where the Habs will finish. I expect him to go quite high (top 5?) and trying to trade for a high draft pick can be quite difficult and have to give up a lot of quality assets. I meant it as it would be hard to trade up to get in a position to draft him. But stranger things have happened...

I will take a closer look at an overager for the upcoming draft.....Tomas Filippi from the Remparts. Fit the bill as far as centerman with size, though their is some questions about his desire to get his nose dirty and work ethic. We'll see if he improves that with Roy. If he doesn't, well we will know what he's all about. But if Roy gets to him......watch out.

same for the ohl ranking. i like Boone Jenner but he's not better than Saad, puempel, Landesog ect. Really interesting to watch the 2 russian this year. both should be first rounder this year. will have an eye on Harrington too as he play with Tinordi

Boone Jenner's skating is an issue right now-- several legitimate NHL scouts have real concerns with it. But Jenner's shot/sense/character is so high that a lot of the independent listings have him a lot higher than some guys with actual teams that I've spoken to. It's an interesting dynamic and reflective of the fact that guys like Jenner will always appeal more to folks who have no real stake (Central, Red Line, ISS, etc.) in drafting him with a high pick as opposed to those teams who will likely have to shell out extra $$$ to get him power skating instructors and all of that. It sounds trite, but believe me-- it's not. Teams are looking more than ever to cut costs, so to draft a kid whose agent is going to charge you the max. rookie salary and then demand additional bonus incentives/structures on his deal, but then have to foot the bill to get his skating NHL-caliber is something more and more teams are having a real issue with these days.

Like Jeff Skinner last year, if Jenner can prove to the NHL people that his skating is not as much of a concern as some feel, then you're looking at a top-10 pick next June. But, if he shows the lack of jump that some have alluded to, then it's going to be interesting to see where he goes.

It's all so much conjecture right now, but I had one NHL guy tell me flat-out that he wouldn't touch Jenner in the 1st round because of the skating flaws. It's just one scout, but if others share his opinion, then Jenner will have a lot of work to do in order to prove himself worthy of where some of these other lists have him.

this. All his ranking seems bizarre for me. I understand Puempel ranking means that the writer follows the U17-18 competition but how ne could place Beaulieu that far in this case???.... because Beaulieu was probably one of the bigest surprise at the WJC camp and its not impossible to see him at the WJC11. But I have to be realist, the undrafted generaly dont make the final cut. That said, Im 100% sure he will make the WJC12 if his progression line stay the same. Saint-john will be great again this year and they have a great chance to go to Memorial Cup, so I think that Beaulieu could be one of the most mature player at the end of the year. I think Im probably too high on Beaulieu right now but I have a good AVG when I feel someone generally. I believe that Nathan will be in the top 15 this year.

p.s. Beaulieu is not a Quebecers just for let you know

Namestnikov is not going to suffer from the dreaded Russian factor (which didn't occur this year either).

He sounds like he grew up in Ontario too. No problems with his English.

WOW I get a great feeling from this guy, just seeing him speak. Hes my new wishlist player for the Habs this coming draft, seems like a great guy very level headed, you don't see many of those russians.

He seems to move with a coordinated ease and naturalness, it will be interesting to follow him this year to see how he adapts to the Canadian game.

There are more players I'm interested in the upcoming draft than last year's draft, even though it is supposed to be a weaker draft.

Wow! This guy speaks like he could be named Alex Smith from Whistler BC! He sounds like he's into it too, not a shy kid. I'll be watching him.

Here some info on Namestnikov by a russian poster here at hf

He was born in Voskresensk ( the birthplace of Igor Larionov, Valery Kamensky, andrei markov, Vyacheslav Kozlov (Vlad is his nephew) and a lot of other world - famous players). His father is former hockey defender in NhL and Russia Eugene Namestnikov, his mother is Kozlov's sister.
He lived for 8 months in Voskresensk then they went to USA. and all his childhood was there. He speaks English as a native American - so he won't have any problems with American lifestyle. Possibly his Russian is not as good as English )))
Then he returned to Russia and played in Voskresensk. Last season was rather interesting to watch him playing with much elder players.
He has good speed, skating, great hands and what is much appreciated (in Russia especially) he's a great playmaker and passer. The case that several specialists saw him on WJC18 as the goal scorer - it was just the circumstances.
In Khimik sometimes he made such marvelous passes alongside with great dangling through central and attacking zone that the stadium went crazy.

Another guy we should keep our eye on is Seth ambroz from omaha in the ushl. he played with Leblanc and Kristo as a 15 years old in the ushl. he's likely to be a top10 pick in june. He remind me a lot of Guillaume Latendresse actually. big kid with great offensive upside but need work on his skating.

here an article from nhl.com http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=536937

Quote:
"Playing with Louis (Leblanc) and Pat (Mullane) helped me a lot," Ambroz said. "Louie just had that attitude of wanting to play hard and he would never quit. Being with him every day was a great thing for me to have."
