Pat Maroon playing for Team USA Inline Team

So I thought this was pretty cool, and perhaps others would find it interesting. I've been big into inline hockey my entire life, played in college and everything. I was checking out the Team USA squad for Inline this year and saw the name Pat Maroon. Sure enough, it's our very own Pat Maroon.

I know he was always very into inline hockey (St. Louis is a hotbed for inline), but didn't expect him to still be playing. In fact, I think I MIGHT have played against him a few years back in a State Wars tournament.

Anyway, thought I'd share.

Yep. Fairly certain the rest of the players are exclusively inline; or at least exclusively competitive in Inline. All of those organizations listed are Inline orgs.

Yea, I was a bit surprised to see it. Inline isn't full contact if you didn't know and it makes you feel any better.

He is also by far the biggest. Seriously, if he is one of the few AHLers on the national teams, he will own them .

To keep in shape during the offseason. I think Giroux played inline the past couple seasons and I know for certain Sam Gagner played for Team Canada since he has been in the NHL.

You would be surprised. These inline players are pretty sick.

Yea some of them are. I'd still be interested to see how he fares. This is the first year in a while where I haven't personally played against some of the Team USA guys, so I can't really speak from experience as to how good they are.

Oh, I play inline. But that's still a terrible idea. Get caught up with someone and go into the boards... accidentally hit knees or have someone land on you, etc.

I get that it's fun, and I'd wager he's friends with the guys that he's playing with (few from St Louis). You're a professional athlete and your profession requires you be physically able to perform... I'm curious if he A) cleared that with the Flyers first; and B) what his contract says about doing that.

This right after Steve Smith broke his arm playing flag football.

Maybe this is something where Maroon's health/fitness coach/trainer guy on the team told him to go do something like this.

OK.. reading about this and apparently a fair number of 'em do. Really bad idea if you get hurt.

I believe Kyle Kraemer is on that team too who played for my college's D1 team at Northeastern University (hockey east) last year during the regular season. He was pretty sick for us this year too.

I don't know. It's a very different game when you take out the ability to take the body. It seems like good inline defensemen are all really hard to dangle/have really good poke checks. That's a lot of Maroon's game right, his hands? Or does he just have good hands in front of the net? It's probably gonna feel weird for him to get set up in front of a net and not feel the whack of a stick at his legs, lol.

C.J. Yoder is a really good player. That's the only name other than maroon's I know on that roster.

You can still get hurt weight training or riding a stationary bike. Sure, the chances are lower, but they need to stay in shape and it's an effective way. If you get hurt doing it, sure it sucks, but the benefits are real, too.

I guess he's literally doing anything to rediscover his scoring touch.

Let the kid play. He likely won't be making the team this year again. Let him gain more playing experience. It's worth risking the low chance of injury.

Oh, from the Flyers perspective, whatever... I just wouldn't do it if I was him.

Link? I'd like to watch Maroon dominant with his size.

If you are going to think like that though, what says he doesn't rupture a ligament doing weights, or trip down the stairs and break his leg, or stick his hand in a snow blower and get injured

Or even get some freak injury while playing a silly little pick up game with a bunch of friends? Which I'm sure a fair percentage of NHL players do during the off season.
