Burke on fan590 this morning

Brian Burke was on the fan this morning and of course he went on about Brad Ross, his draft, marc Savard and how he couldnt talk about it cause he has respect for Chirelli and he's still under contract and his stance on Kaberle blah blah blah, however he did mention he was meeting with two teams today to discuss a possible trade for Tomas Kaberle. The second interesting thing would be that Burke mentioned he has other deals he is looking at for a top 6 forward not counting Marc Savard, indirectly mentioning that a possible Savard deal is on the table. Rumors suggest that a 'soft' trade for Savard is in the works and Kaberle wont be involved. So my question to you would be, is it possible that Burke lands 2 Top six forwards this offseason? if thats the case and Savard is one of them, who would be the other? Carter, Ryan, Perry, J Staal, Lecavalier, St. Louis??? Ill give it a shot....

To Toronto:

Marc Savard

To Boston:
Mikhail Grabovski
(mid-tier prospect)

To Toronto:

If we can get Savard + a good return for Kabs, we'll definately be on the right road

I like the patience Burke is using in regards to Kaberle.

"2nd PP unit, the Phil Kessel's of the world!?"

nice, not that I disagree I've always thought of Kessel as a Havlat type player but good to know we gave up two 1st and a 2nd for a 2nd pp unit guy.

Honestly if he doesn't sign Kovalchuk I'll be frustrated

Mark Spector mentioned last night that Grabo for Savard is a possibility and not Kaberle.... I wouldn't give more than Grabo for Savard. Savard is under contract till 2017...

We're not getting Bobby Ryan, please put that on the shelf and close the door.

I think I heard Ek mention during one of his garbage posts that Perry was closer than Ryan to coming our way in a trade, although this I also can't see happening. Most likely would be Lupol IMO.

I also heard Tangradi is being shopped by Pittsburgh for Kaberle. Good little pickup he'd be, he's the better of the PWF prospects (Caputi, Tangradi), 8.0B by HF scouting. Might not make the big club at the beginning of the season but has top 6 potential for sure.

Who knows... exciting week this'll be, that's for sure.

No one's taking Finger - get a grip.

Grabo is on his final year of his contract, hense it's feesible for Boston to take him and move Savard - like you said they need cap space.

Normally, yes that would be the case, except the Bruins it appears want Savard's contract off their books and he has a very restrictive NTC.

Bryan McCabe scenario all over again.

McCabe and a 4th.

Please for the love of god. Do not quote Eklund. Ever. Everything he says is a lie. Bobby Ryan will not be in a Leafs uniform, nor will Cory Perry. The Savard trade will likely happen. I can see either Grabovski + Mid prospect or Kulemin for Savard straight up. This will free up Kaberle to do whatever we want with him. Keep him another year, or trade for a top 6.

not sure why it was necessary to say something like that

If i'm another GM and see what he paid for what he perceives as a 2nd PP unit guy what the hell would you ask for a 1st pp player

Maybe it was a shot at Kessel if he's not working hard or something but honestly its frustrating that he would just put that comment out there, especially now so close to the draft.

Grabovski makes 2.9 for the next 2 years, and Kulemin is asking for around the same, there's no way either of those two get traded for Savard, even if his contract is much longer. They're obviously looking to save money this year or else there'd be no pressure to trade him right now.

Would someone please explain to me the logic behind acquiring a contract like Savard's while at the same getting rid of Kaberle?

It seems to me that if we were to get Savard it would make far more sense to keep Kaberle and extend his contract.

Please settle down a little. Clearly I revealed my opinion on the validity of his comments in my statement.

My point was simply that neither Perry nor Ryan are possible trade options. Joffrey Lupol on the other hand... I could see that happening.

I have to admit I'm not high on him for just this reason. It's a terribly long and handcuff-ing contract....

He's 33 next month and his contract has 7 years left on it.

This plus he had a very poor season last year (only 30 points in about 40 games) - serious concussion - knee problems. Well you get the picture.
