What's happened to him, is he really sucks.

I mean, how many oppurtunities does it take to turn your game around? The guy Psyched himself out of what could have been a good Hockey career.

Yeah Cheechoo sure psyched himself out of a career. Injuries didn't have anything to do with it.

Yep

2 seasons, 2 teams 127gp 17g 26a 43pt.

17 goals out of 269 shots. His last season in OTT it took him ave. 24 shots just to make one. Talk about a mind job.

Anyway, he was waived cause he sucks not because he's injured.

Anyway, the Kotalik deal was brutal no matter how you look at it. You win some and lose some and Sutter clearly lost that one. If Higgins re-signs at a reasonable price, the deal looks a little better but horrible nonetheless.
I'm not a fan of Phaneuf at all. He's one of the most overrated players in the league. He's terrible defensively but he had high value and the flames got nothing but bit parts in return and they didn't solve their cap situation at all. Anybody who thinks that deal did anything for them is delusional.

I have always liked Nokelainen. PK specialist, something the leafs need if Freddy hits UFA....not sure if we have a spot for him tho. Wouldnt complain if we picked him up.

I honestly wouldn't mind if the Sharks signed Cheech to a league minimum two-way contract. He may have lost his touch, but he still has heart.

what happened to jonathan cheecho? in s.j he was a 50 goal scorer! for crying out loud. then he practically started to decline in a bad way. maybe whoever picks him up can ressurect his career.

Unfortunately for him, more of those "good moves" were done earlier rather than later while more of the "bad moves" came later. Except for his decisions on who to be head coach.

Mad that he dominated your ducks? Cheechoo was a sub-par skater with a great shot in his first few seasons in the NHL. After the double hernia, he became a mediocre skater. It's not that his shot is gone, he just isn't able to get into the right position and keep up with the other players anymore.

To hit 30 goals again would mean that he's hit it before.

Mad? nah, I just don't understand how you guys can keep making excuses for him.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up, I just don't feel sorry for him.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Its funny you think Phaneuf had all this value, all the while being one of the most overrated players in the league and terrible defensively.

Phaneuf's value takes a big hit because he's severely overpaid on top of being "overrated and terrible defensively". If you can't see that, maybe YOU ARE delusional.

I think calling him a mediocre skater is being very generous at this point. Injuries have really reduced him to AHL level skating ability and his shot (although good) doesn't make up for it enough to mean he's productive.

I wouldnt mind them loking at Cheechoo when hes bought out on a low-money deal (750k-1M)

Maybe Kotalik has agreed to be loaned back to his hometown team, which I heard he had interest in after his contract expired?.

This move really makes me question Sutter's sanity if the above mentioned is not the case.

3 main reasons, in my opinion

1) having thornton as his center helped his goal tallies

2) injuries have affected his game

3) probably the least talked about reason, his 56 goal season was a by product of the new rules after the lock out. a lot of players had career years in the 05-06 season because teams were not sure how to defend with the emphasis on calling hooking, holding penalties. its not just Cheechoo who had a career high that season. Jason Spezza had a career high 71 assists that year (never cracked 60 ever before or since), Gomez 33 goals that year (never cracked 20 ever before or since), Gionta had 48 goals (never cracekd 30 ever before or since), just to name a few who had their best year right after the lockout. teams have since adjusted.

I know the Leafs aren't in any position to take chances on players but Cheecho seems like a class guy who could work in the bottom 6 and work his way up to the 2nd line. He could be a stop gap and give him a 1 year @ 1 mill (if we have the cap room) and see where he gets us. I hope it works out for him and he can turn it around

Whatever happened to Vandermeer? I always thought he was a solid, bottom pairing guy? Was it injuries? Or is he just a cap casualty? Not fit in with Tippett's system?

what excuses? cheechoo got hurt and lost his already limited ability to keep up. what's so hard to get?

what i don't understand is how you can be so certain he "psyched" himself out of a good hockey career without any evidence to support your claim. you're obviously entitled to your opinion, but it should at least have some sort of foundation in reality.

Yeah I was hoping for either Toronto or LA just for the familiarity factor.

He was good for about the first month or two of the season. Then he went in the tank. He wasn't physical at all and lost a step. It must have been an injury because he just disappeared all of a sudden. It was really weird.
