Krys Barch is kind of that way with hockey people. The masses don't always see the work he does, but those inside really seem to like him. Barch is a fighter first and foremost, but he also can be a checking line forward, an agitator and an energy guy. And, in a limited role, the coaches trust that he can do those jobs and do them well.
That's one of the reasons Barch has become an important part of the Stars.
Quote:
He is one of the team's leaders in the locker room and a key guy with the NHL Players Association
We don't know that that was what they necessarily didn't think either.
The NHLPA needs an executive director. Krys Barch is heavily involved with the NHLPA. Krys Barch is bad at hockey. Krys Barch is good at things that go on behind the scenes where we can't see them. Krys Barch should be the NHLPA executive director. Plus, the players need to avoid being intimidated when they step into a conference room to negotiate with the owners.

Because I value your opinion, and if in fact this is your opinion of Barch, I'm more than happy with him being a Star for under a Mil. A lot of our youth doesn't need to learn hockey (skill) from Barch anyway. If he's smart in hockey related issues, plays with passion, is a vocal leader, and teaches the youth something about being 'grounded'; good enough for me for 4th liner, in and out of the line up guy.
For as much as some players take the heat around here, I'm wondering what people expect from a 4th line LW? Honestly, no haste, just trying to guage it, if anyone is interested in replying.
He's not in and out of the lineup. He's in the lineup. He's playing at the end of 3rd periods in close games.
What do I want out of a 4th line LW? I want Brian Sutherby if Brian Sutherby could stay on the ice.
I want someone with a realistic shot at scoring 10 goals and 10 assists.
I want someone who will fight when the course of play calls for it, but not for the sake of it.
I want someone who can participate effectively in the cycle and hold the puck in the opponent's end rather than consistently be doomed to be pinned in their own.
I want someone who doesn't take 3 times as many minors as they manage to draw.
I don't care if he ****ing hands out pamphlets and gives seminars on collective bargaining and brings bagels to every meeting. I care that he's not a black hole of depression and futility on the ice.

This post says it all.
