Okay but if Modano plays for us next year they need to let him play without a helmet and he needs to bring back the Flow.

The quote above is how I look at it too...

Plus - Like I said before, in a year where we are most likely a non-contender, what's wrong with a little feel good story of Modano returning to Minnesota!? haha

Honestly tho, I don't think he'd come here anyways... It's all just hype.. I mean look at his comment alone, "It would be a fun storyline"... Ya, that's not a good reason to choose a team, to me it sounded like he was just trying to come up with a friendly but non-descript response...

I just think it's fun to speculate on... It gives us a reason to talk about the North Stars, and the "good Ol' days" as well as a good reason & jumping off point to talk about some other Minnesota favorites like Broten, Dino & Herb Brooks etc, etc

All in all, I've been entertained by all the talk... It's fun to read about & chime in on!

I think he should do a tour of a bunch of cities, just for fun. Play 10 games with us, 10 games with the Wing, 10 games with Chicago, 10 games with the Blues, it'd be like a farewell tour.

Personally I've never considered those REAL North Stars jerseys even tho we wore them at the end. I see those and think Dallas.

GRRRR

Well since we on this tangent, I'll add this...

Back when the Norm Green had the Uni's changed to that style you posted, I had seen it as the end is here, and thats why he took the NORTH out of the STARS.

Norm had been threatening for a while to move the team, and that uniform change seemed to almost be a slap in our face as fans that we were about to lose our team soon.

At least thats how I was seeing it then. Call me paranoid, lol.

I still think after all these years the REAL North Stars had the best colors and uniforms of all time in my opinion. Even if they were worn today they would look awesome. Not all vintage uniforms from years ago can say that, lol.

and this

Remember the horrid V uniforms Vancouver used to have? YUCK!

Damn these boards! lol

All this North Star talk got me thinking too much about old times. I just bought the same white jersey Modano is wearing in the pic above. Minus the Modano #9 part, I'll have k1 a local jersey shop put my own choice of number and name when I get the jersey.

Now I got to figure out what I want to put on it, hmmm...

I can't really explain it properly but it's kind of nice to know that out of all the teams that have been relocated, been re-named & have gotten new duds that Minnesota moving to Dallas really got to keep it's identity (Minus the word "north" obviously) .. I get some pride from that...

I think I'd be even more sad about the North Stars departure if they completely changed the name colors, logo, etc... (like what happened with the Jets, nordiques, whalers, etc, etc) The way it is now, it's like a piece of Minnesota history is still alive & well in the league.. IE - they still play in a jersey style that they used in Minnesota & they still go by Stars, and they still have the colors that they wore in Minnesota, etc, etc...

With that said tho, In retrospect, if we had known we could get a new team 7 years later, I really wish they would have changed everything when they moved to Dallas so that we could have been the North Stars again! haha but seeing how it all worked out, everytime I see the Stars, I still think North Stars... Whereas I don't look at the Coyotes, Hurricanes or Avalanche in that way...

Update on Modano signing with the Wings.

Modano may not end up in Detroit
07.13.2010 / 11:59 a.m. ET

It seemed like a perfect fit, but the chances of Mike Modano signing with the Detroit Red Wings suddenly appear slim.

According to the Detroit News, the offer the Red Wings gave Modano might not be enough to entice the Michigan native to head to Motown. Detroit currently has 20 players under contract at a total of $55.7 million, but still has to sign restricted free agents Derek Meech, Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm.

"We made an offer, we made our pitch," Wings GM Ken Holland told the paper. "But this being a cap world, we've made lots of commitments. We don't have a lot of wiggle room.

"We would love to have Mike join us, but we only have a certain amount to spend."

Other teams reportedly interested in Modano's services are Minnesota, San Jose and Anaheim.

I said it when all this hoopla started, but I really believe Modano will sign with one of the Pacific teams like Anaheim, San Jose or Phoenix.

I definitly wouldn't doubt it as I think all of them have a better chance then Minny does minus maybe Phoenix, but the one thing I see as an issue is that I just don't see him going to a division rival... I mean obviously it could very easily happen but for some reason I just don't see him doing that.. But, with that said, I'm probably wrong, I usually am! haha

Dallas has rivals? I thought they were the Southern version of us in which the three of the four teams I care least about in the league* are our division "rivals."

*This doesn't mean hate or can't stand, it means that if we draw up a list of teams, these would be the ones at the end. Indifferent is a good word.

Too many years have passed by where the blood has most likely cooled down, but if that's what we have to go by it probably proves my point.

Good News! Babcock thinks Modano is going to sign with the Red Wings!

Babcock is optimistic...

Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is optimistic that veteran centre Mike Modano will sign with his hockey team.

Modano is an unrestricted free agent after spending his entire 20-year career in the Dallas Stars organization (he was originally drafted as a Minnesota North Star) and is reportedly being courted by the Red Wings, Minnesota and San Jose.

Babcock met with Modano earlier this week and said he has a good feeling about the 40-year-old.

“This is a no brainer for Mike Modano — the highest scoring American player of all time to come back to your hometown, play in Hockeytown," Babcock told NHL.com Friday.

Modano is a native of nearby Lovonia, Mich.

"It’s not about the cash, it’s about the legacy and the fit,” Babcock said. “He’ll fit and he’ll be excited to play. I look forward to him signing. I think that’s inevitable. I think that’s what is going to happen."

Assuming Modano would want to sign with the Wild, and assuming that Fletcher didn't have any other deals up his sleeve that we don't know about, I'd be OK with adding him to the line-up. This line-up with Modano is better than without him...no one can deny that.

Who gives a rats-a$$ what he said 10-20 years ago? Move on.
